An even better question to me is why does it take someone dying for good acting in a comic book movie to be taken seriously? How was Ledger's performance somehow beneath nutjob roles like Anton Chigurh in No Country For Old Men? It wasn't. Ledger was fantastic. Yet if he was alive, he would have been snubbed just like The Dark Knight, and ESPECIALLY Chris Nolan was snubbed. Nolan's direction was some of the best of the year, yet he wasn't even nominated. The film has plenty of flaws so I can understand why they didn't nominate it. But the direction is top notch and should have been nominated. Likewise for Aronofsky's work in The Wrestler.
