Anyway pretty decent horror flick. Loved Vinnie Jones in his role, he's quite the menacing figure. Horror fans will probably like this blu-ray...gotta love the 7.1 audio track, too. |

Just watched this last night. Good movie, not great, but better than a lot of the horror dreck that was released last year. As reported before, a lot of the CGI effects were obvious and terrible. Worth a rental, but I'm glad I didn't buy it.

Ordered mine from Playusa that cover said "Unrated Director's cut" but today I received the "Director's cut" ?? This one has on the back a running time of 100 mins. and I believe the unrated cover also has on the back a running time of 100 mins. mentioned. Does anyone have a copy that says "Unrated director's cut" ?? It makes no sense to call it "director's cut" if there's also a "Unrated Director's cut". One of them can't be the director's cut then or am I just stupid? Last edited by Dust Devil; 02-18-2009 at 02:57 PM. |

After a little searching I think that there's NO difference between the "Director's cut", "Unrated director's cut" and the UK "Extreme edition".
Untill anyone else can confirm...... |

As much as I want to see this movie, I'm gonna wait until this director's cut and unrated cut confusion is cleared up.

But there hasn't been a theatrical version released on any disc or is there?
I think in the US they have the banner with "Unrated director's cut" in Canada they have the "Director's cut " banner and in the UK "Extreme Edition", but they are all the same cuts. So all UNRATED....that's what I think. |

In the UK MMT was released in cinemas for a short period. That version is 97mins while the UK DVD is 98mins. Now if you consider speed diff between theatrical versions and dvds then you can see its about 5 or 6 mins longer then the theatrical as dvds are usaully 3 or 4 mins shorter.

Then I'll check my Canadian slated "Director's cut" to compare if they are the same cut. Then this is cleared. |

In the UK, you aren't allowed to release any movie that says it's "Unrated" - so instead studios release UK flicks with taglines like "Director's cut" or "Harder Cut" or "Extreme" or whatever. That explains the name difference.
The second issue is the time. For DVDs, US releases are NTSC, and UK releases are PAL. PAL operates at a different framerate, so there is a slight speedup. That's why UK versions of movies on DVD are a couple minutes shorter - those fractions of a second aggregate over the whole film, resulting in slightly shorter runtimes. For Blu-ray, there is no concept of NTSC vs. PAL - almost everything should just be 24 frames per second on the disc (or 30/60 for interlaced sources). But many UK sites and distributors still put the UK DVD time on the UK Blu-ray packaging - either so things look standard and people don't wonder why the Blu-ray is longer, or just because they don't pay enough attention to these really small details on the packaging. But when you actually play the UK Blu-ray disc, it should be the exact same amount of time as the US disc (minus different MPAA or BBFC warnings at the beginning and end of the film). As for why the Canadian release is labeled differently, I'm not sure. May just be the whim of the studio, as I'm not aware of any regulations preventing "Unrated" from being in the title up there. |

I think it's just because the US loves to use the word "Unrated"
![]() Even if there's just a couple of minutes more dialoge then there was in the theaters they put a big "unrated" on the cover. |
