I like Hudson Hawk as well, great entertainment, lots of fun. I currently have it on one of those bad double feature discs.

Been away from the forum for a couple days and wow, this thread has come back to life all of a sudden. I'm all for reading and catching up, but a few of those posts were just far too long.

It's fairly simple really. Some people like the older Hammer stuff, so these announcements are great for them. Others don't, so don't buy them. There's nothing really to argue about here and it definitely doesn't need pages of people "defending" their position. The great thing about movies/collecting is that everyone gets to enjoy what they want. Personally, I like a whole range of movies from many different eras. The Hustler (1961) is one of my favorite movies and so is Poolhall Junkies (2002). Is one "better" than the other because it was older and more "original"? Maybe. Does it matter? Not really, I enjoy both, it's that simple.

Some notes from the Brainwaves podcast:

- Regarding the Vincent Price Vol. 1 set - they're hoping they might be able to re-issue it later this year. Some company (not named) did a deal with MGM for the box set rights to some or all of the titles in the set (I'm intrigued to know who this is)

- Doesn't sound like UHD/4K releases are coming any time soon (to put it mildly). They want to, but 'can't make the numbers work'. Mentions that Kino aren't happy with their orders for Hannibal (which I believe the Insider has already intimated)

- They want to do Gargoyles, but can't find the elements (but why is there a DCP/print available via AGFA?)

- The Corman library has posed similar issues with elements

- Susan Hart asking way too much for her library; 'still thinks it's 1980'

- They asked for Salem's Lot but 'being as it was Stephen King (Warner) wanted to hold onto it'

- Alligator still top of Jeff's wish-list, so it seems like there hasn't been any progress unfortunately

- Fade to Black; owned by an individual, Cliff last spoke to him in 2009. They're pushing still but apparently the film isn't important to the rights-owner. This of course contradicts Irwin Yablans at that convention - perhaps he was mistaken? But Cliff did mention speaking to Dennis Christopher a few weeks back, so if this was in relation to a project I wonder what it was for...

- 'This is the year for Hammer films'. 'A lot' more coming this year.

- They see themselves going into 2020 strong, and if the deals they have in the works come off, then 2020 would be strong too (which suggests more studio/package deals).

In other words, nothing. It was fun while it lasted. Was able to pick up lots of cool SF titles over the past 5 years but it looks like the end of the line for me.

2020? That's disappointing. It's weird no news of any more modern releases. There are still quite a few floating around that I feel like other studios wouldn't bother with. Cry Wolf, Turistas, re-issues of Dr. Giggles and 13 Ghosts, etc. All prime for a SF release.

It officially came out on April 30th and the price change came today. Also, Amazon has been a bit spotty as of late with some of their price adjustments. I myself had to go in and cancel my order for Leprechaun Returns and then Re-order it in order to get the .70 price adjustment that happened last week.

I'm not quite as definitive as you are, but I do tend to fall on the same side as you in regards to the never ending wave of Hammer announcements. It's great to see these films getting released, and I'm happy that Scream Factory will be able to keep cranking things out for at least another 2-3 years as it will hopefully eventually mean more titles I am interested in, but man... I really hope that we get at least one 80's/90's release each month with all the older stuff if for no other reason than to give me hope that there is something for me to be excited about on the horizon.

Hammer Horror is the kind of stuff that I in most cases really won't be considering too much unless it falls below the $10 price range as my enjoyment of the films is spotty at best and so I need to be extremely cautious with what I order in order to avoid buyers remorse.

Thanks for posting this. I try to catch them on podcast appearances, but Brainwaves isn't one I normally listen to, and can't find the time to fit it in.

I suspect at this point, these won't get re-released until she dies or her affairs are taken over by someone else. Not wishing any ill will against her, but from what I've heard she's been asking ludicrous amounts of money for the films she owns for years, and these smaller labels like Kino and Shout aren't going to pay her prices.

It's a shame as there are a few I'd love to get on Blu-ray, but I think were stuck with old DVDs for the foreseeable future.

Since Warner wants to hold onto Salem's Lot because it's Stephen King, I wonder if they feel the same way about A Nightmare on Elm Street. Surely this franchise is too important to them to lend out. This info puts a lot of other potential titles in perspective, too.

I don't see Scream having NoES - in fact, I'm starting to think that aside from a few more Lewton and Hammer titles their initial Warner deal (perhaps for around 40 titles) has been exhausted. Given that we haven't seen a non-Lewton Warner title announced since the March slate, this seems a reasonable supposition. Of course, they'll probably prove me wrong later today by announcing a Warner title, but in any case, clearly there are some red lines there.

Still, I have a feeling that one of the irons in the fire they're referring to is another Warner deal. The next couple of monthly announcements, coupled with the SDCC reveals, will give us a firm indication as to where they are in terms of their deal with Warner (I expect there are still a few few Universal, Sony and Fox titles to be announced, likely some MGM holdings from a long time ago as well)
