Also, he is a 1:20 favorite to win the Oscar. I don't ever remember seeing such a huge favorite. With those odds I would say its pretty much a done deal

heath ledger + oscar = duh!
to me atleast
he was fantastic
perfect portrayal, totally captivating role

speaking of RDJ, i wish he had been nominated for Iron man best actor, just because he WAS tony stark, it was a GREAT job
and he hasnt gotten ANY recognition for that role (in the form of awards) that i know of.........
and the public has somewat over looked it because of the monumental Dark Knight

To even be nominated considering he was in a comedy is a merit in itself. I don't see why people have a problem with someone disagreeing that Heath should win. Yes he was a great Joker I just liked RDJ's performance more.

H.L. has a great performance and is truly deserving of the award. However, the "Oscars" have to be prepared for a potential HL win...that does not mean that he is a "shoe-in" .

your 100% right
just because many people (including me)believe that heath ledger is guaranteed to win doesnt mean people like u dont have a right to think someone else did better

but some people will say, HEATH DESERVES IT NO ONE ELSE HAS A CHANCE!

I'm sorry, but this {finally} has to be said.

Javier saying "FRIENDO" was possibly the worse piece of crap I've ever seen on film.

Totally ruined the movie for me, I mean who the F**k says "friendo"??

It makes sense now that Comic films make up a large portion of the Box Office

The only award show that actually means sumthin is The Academy Awards
Ledger portayal of the Joker is legendary and he deserve's it
Yes, he died, I do think his death may cause a lean towards him to win
Not saying he doesnt deserve the Oscar if he was still alive-
he would still deserve an oscar for his performance
Its just the fact that he is dead- he will never get the chance to do anything
else to get the recognition he deserve's as an actor
The other actors in the catagory did oscar worthy performances as well
but they werent better than Ledger's- they are all the same-
all together looked upon for doing great work and so being nominated
Ledger just deserves the Oscar for reasons greater than the other nominees
to leave a legacy for his fans, family, and especially his daughter
If any other actor were to win..how long would it matter to them
they could still have a chance to be nominated for an oscar as best actor
rather than supporting
Were they to win this award, all it would do for them is just to be said
in some crappy movie's trailer they are starring in a few years from now
They were alltogether great actor's, but plain and simple...

Ledger deserves it more.

If you think he deserves it because he was the best supporting actor in a film, fine. But how can you say he deserves it simply because he died?

No one will dispute his death is a tragedy, but if the one thing that determined his victory was his passing, that is just flat out wrong. This is an award which is supposed to be solely based on who had the best performance, not based on whose win will mean the most.

And FWIW, I do believe he's a shoe-in, based on his performance, and that the crop of nominees aside from him is not as good as in previous years.

The problem with your argument is that the Oscars are rarely based on the actual best work. There's a lot of politics and bias involved. Don't get me wrong, I agree with your argument. It should be all about the work, but unfortunately it rarely is. Want proof? Paul Newman, Martin Scorsese, Al Pacino, and on and on have won Oscars for work that was nowhere near the level of the peak of their careers. And it was because they were snubbed in the past due to someone else having a more sympathetic story. Sean Penn won his first Oscar because of sympathy for past snubs, and yet now it appears he's possibly going to lose to Mickey Rourke because Rourke has everyone's sympathy as the "comeback kid." Kind of ironic, although not at all surprising given how the Academy has always operated.

Oh, agreed, I'm certainly aware of how the awards have been given out. Voters are humans the same as we are, prone to bias and emotion influencing their ballot. And really, there's not a lot of things more subjective than two pick which of five different actors did the best job in five different films.

But by the same token, how things have/do work does not make them correct. All I'm saying is that simply having one of the nominees passing in the prime of their career does not mean they inherently deserve it more. The other actors should not be at a disadvantage for simply continuing to exist.

I truly believe he deserve's it for his acting, not because his passing
i believe he's better than any other nominee
Im sure the academy is like me and many others, that believe his acting,
was completly amazing...and he "deserves" the oscar for it.
He completly changed who he was.
But his win is more of an honoring effect if they decide.
Cause you cant hide the fact that he's dead.

YOU SAY
---"This is an award which is supposed to be solely based on who
had the best performance" ----Which he did.. and even if he didnt,
how often does a tremendous young actor die when being nominated for an oscar...
Have a heart on the situation.

I think that Heath's joker was great, but Jack's was better imo. I don't know if he should win bc i haven't seen all the nominees yet.
