They can do whatever it is Disney tells them to do. They have free reign per se. The beauty of it is that it can’t in any way cause a meltdown. These new, unrelated movies don’t matter and if the die hards don’t care then they simply won’t go see them. If they end up good, then fine, watch and enjoy.

Nothing to meltdown about, sorry to say.
I agree.
For me "Star Wars" has always been the Skywalker Saga. I loved the original trilogy. I never considered it high art, and its mythology makes little sense since George Lucas was changing it as he went along.

I've watched the prequels but was unimpressed. I only watched the Disney Star Wars movies because my daughter wanted to see them, but will go see IX just to see how it ends. I have never watched any of the TV series.

When the new trilogy comes out, if there is good buzz I'll go to the theatre, if not I'll wait for Disney+.

I do wonder at times what exactly "Star Wars" means. To me, without Luke, Leia, Han, Chewy, or even Rey, it is just a Disney label for action oriented family Sci-Fi with cute robots.

Yes sir. Star Wars IS The Skywaker, Anakin, Han, Leia, etc storyline. Once thats wrapped up.... it loses a lot of appeal IMO. Sure, Ill watch what they put out just to see them and *maybe* some will be good but there isnt any possibility of anything in the future having the impact and sustained enjoyment that the first 3 films(OT) had and still have. Never. Cant do it. I like the prequels and the latest films are decent I suppose. Honestly though there is part of me that can easily just end it after EP6/ROTJ and pretend nothing else happened afterwards. Im fine with that.

Star Wars without the major characters that we've grown to love over the last 40+ years arent getting replaced by anything or anyone new. Nuh uh. Not even close.

So you won't melt down over future Star Wars movies provided other people don't like them more than you think they should?

If by fair you mean batshit crazy then yes, fair enough.

Raw's ratings skyrocketed to all-time highs when Russo wrote the show; GoT ratings and popularity grew and grew every season. I'm sure glad in both cases they didn't listen to people like you

Since they’ll probably write the entire script around some crazy ass twist, that’s good to hear.

Once the OT characters are done being exploited for nostalgia and profits, then Disney and Lucasfilm will have to move Star Wars into a new age where their original characters will need to carry the franchise going forward on their own merits.

I imagine we would have to wait to see if Disney can create characters as loved and memorable as Lucas did with Luke, Han and Leia to then see if any future installments will make any controversial choices with their character arcs before we can determine if there will be any more "meltdowns".

That would mean Luke would be on the island all by himself for the entire film. Who would he be speaking all of the scenes of exposition to?

The best seasons of Game of Thrones were the ones where they were taking the George RR Martin Books and adapting them. That isn't meant as an insult.

Take a movie like Raiders of the Lost Ark. It was a perfect storm of people doing what they're good at. Lucas came up with the concept and Kasdan helped write it. Then Spielberg directed it and Ford brought the character to life.

Hopefully Benioff and Weiss are taking some material and adapting it to the screen, because that's what they seem best at. Not everyone can do it well.

Yeah, A GoT written SW movie will be right up my alley.
