Youtube compression might ruin things, but I don't see a lot of film grain in that clip....

The grain is there. YouTube is just a hater and it just means the next clip will have to be at a higher bitrate and see if that saves the grain.

Wonder if this was graded by the same person who did The Matrix remaster, I'm getting very similar vibes with those teal-colorized highlights, and that one had some pretty noticeable noise/artifacting because of it. Hopefully this won't suffer the same. Other than that the new grade looks like a huge improvement over the murky old master.

Bill Pope supervised it too, I guess.

But it should be more balanced in UHD version. Like in case of The Matrix.

I don’t get a Matrix vibe. At all.

You could convert it to an uncompressed AVI file, and YouTube would still butcher it.
YouTube doesn't care about the bitrate of the files you upload; only the resolution.

The trick is to either up-res it to something like 4K, so YouTube will give it more bandwidth. Or you slow it down to 12fps, so the Mbit/s are higher per frame.

I suppose I could sync up my original Blu-Ray from one player for the original audio track in HD with the 4K while it plays.

I will watch the 4K with the ATMOS track just to hear it at least once.

They only tampered with BATMAN 89's original sound effects and not BATMAN RETURNS correct?

The DoP doesn't do the grading, they just sit on their phone, occasionally looking up saying "Yeah, that looks pretty good" or "Maybe a bit more blue" or they receive a couple of .jpgs to review on their phone while on a flight to their next shoot. "DoP approved!" OK not really, but my point is it's still mostly up to the person at the controls, unless they go all-in restoration mode with reference prints and whatnot, and even then the colorist is going to leave a mark on the result whether intentionally or unintentionally.

No one knows how close the new Matrix grade is to the original, personally I suspect the hints of 2-strip Technicolor and and teal highlights are digital fabrications or exaggerations, but either way it looks like a manual approximation to a high degree, and not a fantastic one, as evidenced by the grading artifacts.

The 5.1 is also not the original mix either. So....there's that.

Aside from the 5.1 - Was there added / altered sound effects performed when they bumped it to 5.1?

OH anyone confirm what at the end of Batman does it include Vicki Vale getting lint on her mouth/ tongue while kissing jokers purple jacket?

I kind of forget the various versions of that exchange. I believe on the old flipper DVD the WS side was different than the pan/scan

I recall seeing this at the Fathom screening I attended.
