There's still an opportunity, sure, but I kinda doubt the likelihood of that happening. Maybe they'll do a Paramount + Gump and finally update the 2D BD for the next JP anniversary but leave the UHD untouched, and now that I think about it Sony are also doing this with the two Ghostbusters movies.

More than likely when the 8K hits retail for it's 35th or 40th anniversary we'll get a remastered 4K to go with it. And that's when we'll see a good 4K. Of course, the 8K will suck balls so we'll have to wait 'til the 16K arrives to get a 8K release, but then, well you know the drill.

First one's never gonna look good on home media, just accept it and achieve some semblance of inner peace.

TLW looks good but not revelatory. Still “off” from what I’d expect compared to post-2012 film transfers of other tentpoles. Sadly I don’t think I’m willing to buy this series again.

The movie has an innately diffused look owing to dat Kaminski guy, and the UHD (and BD for that matter) captures that style beautifully IMO, with the minimum of overt noise reduction, sharpening etc that's been doled out to the other two old-school JP movies. Shame about the black crush but other than that it's gorgeous in 4K.

It's the way that you agree exactly with what I've said, but present it in a way so that it comes off like you're disagreeing with me that I find so very mystifying.

I am agreeing and disagreeing all in one sentence. There will an opportunity for a redo, just like when an anniversary comes around for whatever movie, my distinction is that the odds for them capitalising on that opportunity with an actual 4K do-over are so remote they're not worth bothering with. You're nitpicking 1924's post, saying that there's a chance but not really a chance, and I'm nitpicking your post in turn.

For a franchise that is probably Universal's crown jewel (both in legacy content and current box office success), Jurassic has gotten screwed over so much. It's really baffling. Nothing really else to contribute here from me; just general sadness.

I’m not expecting the first 2 Jurassic films to look spectacular & look dated but that’s what we really should be appreciating more. But I fully expect Jurassic World to look spectacular. Just when I thought my 4K Collection was complete, I see this thread.

First one looks "dated" because it's a mediocre fiddled-with transfer, not because there's some sort of underlying problem with the film itself.

The Blu is itself a middling effort, with a too-cold colour palette and a generally over-sharpened 'old HD telecine' look.

Ok fair enough but how does it look in 4K, is it worth buying?

Edit: I'm talking about the original, of course. I only like the first two movies, and TLW already looks great.
I could be mistaken, but I believe it has come up as a potential project by the guys who did the project 4K for Star Wars. They also mentioned other films like Raiders of the Lost Ark, but I have no idea if these are just musings or they are really planning something.

Personally, I don't think there's a problem enough with JP (or Raiders) to be too interested in such a project. It's not like Star Wars where the last official release of the UOT was a 4x3 letterbox laserdisc transfer. The UHD of Jurassic Park isn't a homerun, but it's also not a complete disaster like Terminator 2. It's aightttt.

But you didn’t say “yes” or “no”. You must shepherd the sheep.
