I was going to preorder it from Arrow & then forgot that it costs 7.5 pounds to ship 1 bluray that costs 15 pounds. Guess I'll wait till around August & bundle it with a Jackie Chan bluray from Zavvi

Really? That's insane. Cost me four pounds to ship this, The Shining Blu and BFI's Birth of a Nation from Zavvi. Unfortunately they don't have John Malkovich listed for some reason and I forgot about The Big Clock.

Was gonna order this from Arrow. Unfortunately it seems it is a bit too heavy as the postage is 5,5 pounds. Waterworld LE shipping was 2,49 pounds or so. Faster shipping would be 8 pounds. I could also order the 2 disc version with cheaper shipping price.

Decisions decisions...

The German disc was using the Korean restoration, and my understanding is that it was a 4K restoration already.

The German release doesn't have the three-hour new interviews, neither the feature commentary by Film critic Shin Hyung-chul.

Hopefully the release isn't delayed, or the extras in question removed because of this. If Plain Archive does have exclusive rights to those extras in their contract with Celsisu then they do have the right legally to stop sales of anyone infringing on that contract.

the one I'm interested in is Alive's "ultimate collector's edition". Looks like it may have been released the same day as the two Capelight ones? which only adds to the confusion. But I think I remember reading somewhere that it got the same extras as the PA release... would love to confirm if that is or isn't the case, and curious to know how it stacks up against Arrow's version...
The Alive "Ultimate collector's edition" IS one of capelight's 2017 releases, it's not an Alive release. Alive is listed on the back cover of capelight's Oldboy just like with majority of capelight releases, for being involved with them in one role or another depending on the release. Many other German labels work with Alive as well, hence easily making the releases superficially look like by Alive when often that's not quite the case.

HERE are the specs for capelight's Ultimate edition, showing it includes the 111min Old days documentary on a separate disc in a digipak and contentwise that is the main difference between the capelight LE and UE versions. So it's indeed also missing the new 3hr Old days interviews.

Well, it certainly doesn't look like anything's been resolved between Arrow and Plain Archive...I hope Arrow hasn't made things worse, and that all the extras listed manage to stay on the upcoming release.

Old Days is indeed included and with the 3-disc edition, you get "Old Days Interviews: Looking Back on the Days of Oldboy, Over three hours of extensive recently film interviews with the film’s cast and crew."

The materials(yellow highlighting) were created exclusively for the Korean release of Oldboy Blu-ray, meaning international use by other company or companies were not included in the agreements between us and Old Days international distributor. Why are you saying that?@ArrowHelp

I assume PA will lease the rights to Arrow and were just highlighting that they were owed. The PA release is long, long sold out and technically meant for the Korean market (even if some of us outside of Korea had to have it... and most other PA releases), so I doubt they'll be too precious about the exclusivity if a cheque heads their way.

I think it could go either way in regards to the PA stuff. As an outsider, they look really annoying and insistent, but there may be truth in what they say, I'm not sure, as I don't work for either company. That said, it would be a major blow to lose the PA extras, but as mentioned a cheque can speak loudly.

Could very well be that PA was contractually obliged to have those exclusive to South Korea.
In this case, no cheque heading their way is going to change that.

Lets hope the extras are not removed from the release as they really make this essential and definitive and I love the packaging. It’s funny that I’m salivating over the hours of additional bonus material when I have not managed to get through the 3hr behind scenes footage on past Tartan DVD release. I suppose the hope is that this single set will allow me to discard the two different Tartan DVD sets and the blu-ray steelbook.

Cancelled my Zavvi 3-Disc pre-order and re-ordered it directly from Arrow.

Didn't want to miss out on it in case rights issues ala Django spring up.
