I watched a clip last night of the first Batman scene in Batman 89 if you are considering buying the UHDs in future.
I put this up for Meirzwiak & others who are not liking the cyan in the movies can observe it. Last edited by dublinbluray108; 06-05-2019 at 07:30 PM. Reason: I forgot to include the link there. Sorry. |

I watched this for the first time since 1989. The sound is EXCELLENT, the picture is very good, but don't expect miracles. It was filmed in 1989, and was a dark picture to begin with. The movie itself? Well, just like I said to myself in 1989 when leaving the theatre, "Damn, that SUCKED."

![]() If this clip represents what they did (I haven't checked the rest of the movie YET) then I advise not to buy it. Indeed the original audio isn't anywhere to be found in this 4K. The first part of that Youtube clip is from the regular 1080p Blu-ray (not the remastered one). Why Crapner has to ruin these movies in so many ways? I took a few pictures from the old Blu-ray vs. the 4K, in my PC, using madVR as the MPC-HC's video renderer. Madvr will automatically send the HDR metadata to the TV when it is HDR capable. Otherwise it will convert the video to SDR so we can watch it (with proper colors) on a normal monitor/TV. My monitor is an old W2452V and the video card is also outdated: AMD R7 265. If these caps in any way represent this release as it actually is... then Crapner did their digital tinkering AGAIN. And one thing I don't understand is why the change in the aspect ratio, notice how the 4K crops more than the old 1080p. [Show spoiler] Oh, and before someone kicks me for posting these pictures: first take some time to look what they did with the Superman movies: 4K vs old 1080p from Superman: The Movie: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...postcount=2298 Superman II (DVD vs. 1080p): https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...postcount=4855 Superman IV (DVD vs. 1080p): https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...postcount=4866 Batman (1989) appears OK but the changes applied to a few scenes look really wrong to me. For example the first scene where Batman appears is too dark (haven't I seen the same issue in STM? hum...), and the one where he is fighting the Joker in the end was changed to reflect a BLUE light that isn't in the old 1080p release. The movie appears darker and with a blue tone. Why these reviews don't take any time to compare the old vs. new? Am I the only one left that cares about how faithful a movie is in these releases? If that's the case then all is lost. I predict in the future only colorized versions from black and white classics will be released... considering where things are going. If they start doing that I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest. Last edited by Mocorongo; 06-06-2019 at 09:38 PM. |

That's why I don't bother reading reviews. They all appear to be jerking off to whatever is new instead of doing their job.
No review has any value if it's not comparing the new with the old Even if the old is a laserdisc I think it's worth checking Based on the assumption the new will always be distant from what the movie really should look like and based on these companies history of changing these movies for whatever reason Next thing someone is going to say is that the 4K is the one looking correct, and this blue light should have been there, it's just the old Blu-ray forgot to add, and it's too bright Look what they did with The Matrix (1999) and that green tint cast over the "data" world. If the sheeple think it's cool then why bother, uh? For Batman: they didn't correct anything, instead made changes no one has asked And about the new re-mix with changed sound effects, don't worry! Just wait another decade for Crapner to release the original one in another edition It took Superman: The Movie years for that theatrical cut with the original track ![]() |

Everything I've seen indicates this movie is much closer to the film prints. Maybe a bit more of a teal push, but much better than the old Blu-Ray transfer. The audio mix though, was a huge misstep (the not including the original track).
I feel like some people's expectations about the original experience are a little too high sometimes, like the only way to satisfy that level of historical authenticity would be to collect vintage original prints and screen them. Which would actually be awesome and something I would do if I was rich ![]() |

For me personally, I loved the 4K presentation - both the visuals and the sound. It always bugged me how some of those sound fx sounded originally. Made it seem cheap. To my ears, they tastefully changed out those sound fx to newer ones. It didn't sound out of place like the sound mix for Terminator did (ooof!). Just my thoughts. For the purists, it is a shame they didn't include the original mix. But for me, this is a home run 4K blu!

No one's cropped nothin', sunshine. The original aspect ratio is 1.85:1. Exactly how it's presented on the UHD. The old blu-ray was opened up to 1.78:1
