Blu-ray Samurai

Well, we have 4K, so why should anyone be surprised by 8K? Did anyone actually believe manufacturers would stop there? Furthermore, should anyone be surprised when it is a given that something to be named will supersede 8K?
Technology and/or practicality has nothing to do with the above, as the overwhelming number of consumers don’t make rational decisions, they make emotional ones. 8K is clearly better than 4K. Even a child could answer that question, as 8 is greater than 4. The fly in the ointment for some is that there is unlikely to be 8K discs. The flip on the fly is greater bandwidth at a lower cost combined with improved compression codecs and on board AI image and sound processing will deliver superior image/sound over presently available technology. At least, that’s what the industry is betting on. The other big question will be the affordability/availability of the highest tier products, including first run theatrical releases for the home, and whether or not they will remain an affordable luxury for all, or only in developed markets/major urban areas with the supporting infrastructure. |
