That would be awesome but I've never heard of a show being released a week or two after it's run ends

I have!

Take "Torchwood: Season Three" which The Digital Bits is saying will come out in July even though S3 doesn't even premiere til July (it's five episodes long and will complete it's run in a week).

The second and third seasons of Friday Night Lights have come out shortly after their seasons finished, with season 3 coming out May 19 for just $18.99.
If this was the common way of releasing tv shows I don't think I'd ever watch shows when they first broadcast. I love plowing through a season or even a whole series at one time.

That's not the issue. Usually they wait to release the dvd until shorty before the next season starts because they think sales will be better and it will hype the new season. Plus it cuts down on some advertising costs because they can advertise the dvd/Blu-ray plus the upcoming season.

The season airs it's 2 hour finale on May 25th so there's is no way this is accurate.

According to epguides.com the 2 hour finale airs on May 18th. The 19th still seems a bit unreasonable, but TVShowsOnDVD.com is a very reliable site

Redemption came out 2 days after airing

They shot 7-8 episodes before the strike, which probably gave them the leg up on production they needed to make it happen on Blu this year

I can definately see a move toward faster releases. With the current trend of getting everything on Hulu or iTunes lickety split, we're progressing toward shorter windows for TV product, but also creating a digital chain that could do the Blu and DVD releases at the same time.

This means that Fox is sending each episode out as it comes off the Avid, it's the only way they'll be able to get it done that fast. Standard schedule has the last episode of the season roll off about 2 weeks before air.

itll never be released that early as the dvd's would leak out before the finale and ruin the ending

This actually makes sense. Season 7 was in the can several months ago thanks to the writers strike giving the cast and crew essentially a year and a half to complete all 24 episodes. So they've had time to finish up all the extras like commentaries and featurettes.

I just hope they go back and also release the earlier seasons.

You're right, I had looked on imdb at first and they didn't have March 9th down as an airdate, they jumped from March 2nd to March 16th so the finale is May 18th. Still unheard of to buy the season the next day but maybe they're trying something new

TVshowsondvd.com are a very reliable site so I would be money this date is accuarate. I prefer if they would release television shows from the beginning instead of starting with Season 7. Still if this season continues to well I will be buying for sure. Season 6 was a huge dissipointment but this season hs been going well so far. Hope it stays that way. If the price really is only $80 or $55 retail that is an incredibly good price for an 18 hour season.

Nice, I can't wait to hear Jack Bower say "damn it!" in 5.1 DTS MA. I bet the soundtrack will give some Hollywood blockbusters a run for their money.
