Thumbs up NHL 2009-2010 Season

Now that the stanley cup playoffs, the NHL awards, and the draft are over, we can look forward to an exciting new season of hockey. If you are anything like me, you can not wait until the first puck drops on the 2009-2010 season. Will the pens defend the cup, will pronger be the missing piece of the puzzle in philly, will detroit revenge their heartbreaking finals loss, will ovechkin get his third straight trifecta of awards (hart, richard, and pearson)?

We soon shall have answers to all of these questions..

It will be interesting to see how much of an impact the rookies will have on their team. Is anyone with me in thinking that hedman will make a bigger initial impact on the lightning than tavares will with islanders? i just feel that the lightning are farther along than the islanders and all the pressure will not be put on hedman like it will be for tavares. either way, i wish them both a great season.

As far as Philly goes, it has always been the goaltending. Pronger is a nice addition, but he is in the last year of his contract, and with Emery, who knows what the hec will happen. We lead the league last year in minor penalties and times short-handed, so I guess these 2 guys will just add to those stats....which is not good. I am in "wait and see" mode right now. You can talk the talk, but we'll see how Emery does when the Philly fans get on him, and they WILL get on him for something. If so, he'll probably implode and the season could easily go with him. I think it is too risky of a signing with Emery. If the Flyers re-sign Pronger for at least another 2 years, then that trade was OK. Just a frustrated Flyer fan opinion.....

Forsberg, while your GM overpaid, he assessed his weakness and stopped at nothing to get it. Having Pronger on your team makes you an immediate contender. Only later will we see if his bet turned out, but man, at least you got the player.

I wish Gainey would do that as well but I don't want to lose the farm just for a bet though. Tough choice. Be happy you have Pronger.

Great addition for Philly.

I'm just glad Anaheim doesn't have Pronger anymore...means less time the Wings have to face him.

Yes, he is a great addition, as long as he stays here after this one year. he could easily leave then what did we get for our investment (anything but a cup), it would be nothing at all, and we will have lost a good, up-n-coming defeseman, a 25 goal scorer, and a first round draft pick for each of the next 2 years. The Pronger trade is a good one as long as he stays, that I will agree with you on.

I think it is funny that nobody mentioned the whole Emery thing from my post, and I think I know why, becuase you are as scared as I am of what he could end up doing to this team.......the NHL version of TO. Philly fans remember him well....Emery better be on his best behavior. The sports radio and fans here are pretty brutal.

All they need now is to make a deal with Avery.

im really excited to see what all the youngsters can do for the blues this year, with a year NHL experience under their belts, and hopefully getting the goaltending situation all set, should be fun to watch!

GO BLUES!!!

I wonder if all the Hawks fans who talked smack about Hossa last year will be #1 fans of his now.

I guess the Wings are going to knock out the Hawks again next year in the playoffs, eh?

He lost the last 2 Stanley Cup finals, with the Pens in 08' and the Wings in 09', so Hawks in 10'? Doesn't 3 times define a trend?

I'm still waiting for a good move by Bob. All these no names instead of Tanguay, Kovalev.

Komisarek is gone now with Hall gill and Jaroslav Spacek habs.
