I'm hoping more for a true Cloverfield Sequel/Prequel or both.

Where did this misconception come from that Bad Robot is some franchise appropriating/remake/reboot factory?

Out of all their many productions there’s only 2 pre-existing franchises (Star Trek and Mission Impossible) and 1 remake/re-adaption (Westworld).

The two Star Wars films don’t really count as they were co-productions with Lucasfilm only because JJ directed those films and he required his production team. It’s not a franchise that they have control over or will continue produce if JJ isn’t directing.

I've enjoyed most of his films as purely popcorn entertainment, nothing more or less than that. Super 8 was great, his Star Trek's are among the few "reboots" I actually enjoy, MI movies were solid...

I dunno, I'll always give his stuff a bit of a chance as his track record with producing tentpole movies is pretty solid...

People online still hate JJ Abrams?

I thought that was a fad from 10 years ago with the lens flare jokes.

I like Felicity, Fringe and Alias, but his theatrical efforts are disposable McMovies.

I guess we can add J.J. Abrams to the list of directors whose films make millions of dollars worldwide, earn critical acclaim, but everyone hates them.

By the way, Bad Robot isn’t being purchased by anyone. It’s just a production home deal.

That kind of makes Bad Robot a Warner co-production. So yes they are Warner now and produces for them. Just Like MCU, Lucasfilm does for Disney.

No, Disney owns Marvel and Lucasfilm. Warner is not buying Bad Robot. Just like Paramount before this, it’s a production deal.

Studios rarely produce their own film/shows, they hire a production company to do it.

Just like a company securing a two-year furniture supply contract for the government offices.

yeah, he really put the final nail in the coffin. I mean, we have Discovery, a Picard spin off, a potential Star Trek from QT and other rumoured series.

You really have it in for certain directors don’t you?
