John Ford is the only one allowed to film in a desert without being called a poseur or copycat? These boards can be obnoxious with their nonsense and forceful opinions!

I fail to see the similarity between the lensing of The Searchers and those other movies he mentioned, especially No Country for Old Men.

I won't count the ones that I just bought because I haven't watched the blu's yet but of the ones I own and have watched....

[Show spoiler]Barry Lyndon- My family can never stay awake through this and they complain about it being slow but there is something about this film for me that I can't explain. It is one of those films that takes me out of the present and makes me feel like I am there. I fell in love with this film the very first time I saw it in the theater and I was only 14 years old ( I have always loved history).

The Blob- how I wish Criterion would have done more of these 50's monster movies....

Carnival of Souls- Saw this as a kid on late night tv and I just remember being creeped out about it even though I didn't know what the hell was going on. Once I saw it as an adult and figured it out, I have loved it ever since.

The Cat People- another beautiful, creepy film. I really wish Criterion would release more Val Lewton films....

Dead Man- another one my family could not stay awake through but I love it....

Dr. Strangelove- believe it or not, I doubled dipped (more like quadruple dipped)
on this for that extend trailer.....

Eraserhead- this film, along with John Waters films, are what opened my mind when I was a teen.....

Eyes Without A Face- I just saw this for the first time about a year ago. Better late than never as they say.....

Female Trouble- I put this on when I want people to leave. A classic!

The Harold Lloyd films- I still can't believe how good these look and I love the short films that are included....

The Graduate- One of my favorite films of all time. Criterion rescued it. I did a side by side comparison of the old blu ray with my Dvd and could see NO difference. If you have the old blu ray this will blow you away....

House (Hausu)- if you like bat sh*t crazy Japanese films then this is pure cinematic gold....

Mildred Pierce- I had never seen this film until I bought the Criterion on a whim at a B&N sale. I have been a Joan Crawford fan since seeing Berserk! and Trog on tv as a kid but I always assumed this would be one of those horrid melodramas which I usually can't handle unless they are super cheesy. Needless to say this film blew me away....

Naked Prey- another film I saw on tv as a kid that was just etched into my brain forever.....

A Night To Remember- As a Titanic fanatic this is a great release....

On the Waterfront- I've been obsessed with Marlon Brando since seeing The Wild One on tv as a kid (same with Lee Marvin)....

One Eyed Jacks - another rescue by Criterion....

The Fugitive Kind- where is that Criterion upgrade?

I have others but some I haven't watched and others I like a lot but would not consider them favorites. Some are favorite films where the old blu was sufficient but I bought the Criterion for the different extras (Some like It Hot, Dead Man, etc).

Sorry for the long, convoluted answer but hey you asked .

I throw another hat in the ring for Barry Lyndon! I haven’t gotten the Criterion version yet, but I find that movie so watchable! Got to see a 35mm print of it at LACMA a few years ago and it’s magnificent!

Some of my favorite Criterions would have to be:
Ace in the Hole
All That Jazz
Badlands
The Darjeeling Limited
Red River
The Royal Tenenbaums
Rushmore
Special shoutout to "Medium Cool" (excited to see this one in 35mm soon at MIFF!) and "Seconds" (I no longer own either CC release).

I love what George C. Scott did when he won for Patton. He called them out for what they are. He will always be my hero for that.....

I feel like it is closer in cinematography style to Letter Never Sent than Stalker.

This video essay is an interesting comparison between The Revenant and Tarkovsky.

Couple days into the sale and my store barely had anything on my list. Had to order a couple more.

Easily the most beautiful looking movie I’ve ever seen. The Criterion BD is a stunner. Sure it has minor compression issues, but unless Warner does a UHD, it’s the best it has ever looked (and Warner doesn’t include the original audio mix, so it’s great Criterion included the original mono).

When does the Barnes & Noble sale for Criterion Blu-rays end? It's 3:25 PM where I am right now.

I can only speak for my local B&N, but they're pretty good about replenishing sold-out titles during the sale.

I also noticed that they had about ten copies of WAR AND PEACE (nine after my visit), so they seem to perceive that WAP will be a popular seller.

Just back from my first trip to B&N this sale. The Criterion section had been picked over pretty good, with lots of empty spaces and many missing titles. I took this as a good sign.

Didn't get anything on my small list for this event - but plenty of time for that. Plus, there are two other stores within driving distance to visit.
