No, but I have to wonder if they'll do something for next year.

I've seen Jaws more than any other film and the current BD looks outstanding to me!

Made up for life! (Written at 23:00 Thursday 27th June 2019)

Just heading home from - An Evening with Richard Dreyfuss in London.

At one point in the evening they asked for three volunteers to act out Quint’s Indianapolis monologue to Mr Dreyfus on stage.

A young boy of 8 and an older women were picked very swiftly.

From the balcony seats and shouted “don’t forget us in the cheap seats”.

The host called me down.

On stage I joined the other two and was handed the script. My heart was thumping so loud I could hear it in my throat.

The boy went first and did a great job. Asking the host what “slightly drunk means” which Richard made a joke about.

Then the women went. She did very well too.

Then it was my turn. I was terrified but at the same time have hade the masterpiece that is Jaws coursing through my veins for 30 years.

I did my best Shaw voice and started to the read occasionally looking up at Mr. Dreyfuss.

Then I reached the part about the sharks eyes being lifeless, black like a dolls eyes.

Suddenly the script fell away and I locked eyes with Hooper as I delivered those words I saw tears welling up in his eyes. For a moment time stopped still and I knew without him telling me he was remembering Robert Shaw.

I then finished the scene and gave it my all.

The crowd gave a surprisingly massive applause.

Richard shine my hand firmly and said “that was wonderful”. I told him it was an “honour to read that to him”. He said some other things but the utterly surreal experience had me in a trance.

I then got the courage to push my luck and said “would you do me the honour and hopefully everyone here will join you in singing “show me the way to go home together?”

Richard smiled and said of course the crowd applauded again and on the main screen the host brought up the lyrics. I ran back to my seat whilst everyone sang with him.

This was truly an amazing night and couldn’t have hoped for a better experience.

I had missed out on meet and greet tickets as only so many were sold.

Someone up there was smiling down on me today and I thank them for what will forever be etched in my memory.

Consider me one ecstatic Jaws fan right now.

Luckily over the years I came to realize a great movie is a great movie, whether or not it's a big-budget crowd-pleaser or an obscure art film.

I'm in the process of reading Carl Gottlieb's making-of book, The Jaws Log - I highly recommend it, even though it's fairly short.
Yeah, agree. A great film is a great film. I actually think the extended beach scene is a master class in building up tension and providing the pay off. One of the finest scenes in movie history.

I love Kubrick by the way. FMJ and The Shining are my two favourites.

People’s faces are a little too orange for my liking.

You're right, the beach scene is brilliant. Pretty much everything in Jaws is brilliant, particularly the performances. Unlike a lot of modern blockbusters, where sometimes the humor and performances and dialogue can be broad, even tongue-in-cheek, Jaws has an admirable restraint and realism, and even the funny parts feel real and fairly understated.

Yeah, the characters feel very ‘earthy’ and for me, it was a career best from Roy Schneider. Such a likeable character (as most were) and I can’t imagine anyone else playing that lead.

Exactly - for some reason, Scheider - at least in Jaws - had a way of playing someone who's tough, smart, funny and competent, but also very vulnerable and a little sad. I loved the irritated, hurt look he gives to Quint after Quint tells him to drop some more chum (right before the shark makes his sudden appearance). He's like the guy who's always getting the dirty job to do.

My favorite Brody line in the whole movie: "You're wearing a sweater."

For those who like more grain the 1080p HD version of the DVD era master pops up on streaming networks from time to time. I still think contrast and colour looks better on the BD but the grain structure on the HD streams does help it looks more filmic.

Yes, great line. I like the little skip he does while walking from his headquarters to the street outside. It’s a subtle little moment that suggested to me he was thinking “right, so much going on in my head but I have it under control”.

Jaws is a strange disc. It has the typical universal problems of too much grain management and some minor ee but it somehow doesn't ruin the disc for me like so many other releases of theirs. I found the BD to be strangely watchable for me upon rewatching the disc
