Very unlikely though not impossible. More likely is that in the very near future we'll see either a) New Steelbook releases of the film(s) with fresh 4k scans, or b) A new box set housing all 3 films together (with fresh new 4k scans).
I wonder why SF never released Rush Week? Isn't it owned by MGM?

I say no. I don't consider The Hills Have Eyes or Wrong Turn slashers either.

Slasher films to me are usually a lone killer with a knife as the most common weapon...

Yeah I would say no on Texas Chainsaw Massacre as well. It rides the line but I'd go with no.

We'll either get a steelbook with ugly as sin art or a boxset with ugly as sin art.

A. More than 50% of all films in the slasher subgenre qualify as a "who done it", and that's probably an extremely conservative estimate.

B. Black Christmas
[Show spoiler]actually fails as a "who done it" because we never actually find out who did it.
There’s a video on YouTube by cinemassacre that says the first slasher film dates back to the 40s & yes Halloween is a slasher.

He owns a lot of films but I'd hardly consider him an expert on the matter.

My worthless opinion-if by slasher we mean the sound effect(and music) edited to a visual, I have to say Psycho's shower scene.

I am more likely to call TCM a Slasher than not to call it one but am pretty 50-50 on it. But with that in mind if you don't consider it a slasher what sub-genre do you consider it? It seems like it would fit best in the slasher genre even if it doesn't necessarily tick all the normal boxes we've come to expect from a slasher. I'd argue that if Black Christmas and/or Psycho are considered Slashers on any level, that by default TCM would also need to be considered one as well.

TCM is more of a slasher than Black Christmas - not that I think the subgenre needs rigid requirements

Halloween is the crown jewel of slashers, it perfected the formula and set the mold for decades of other movies

I personally don’t like to give F13 too much credit for slasher impact. The wheels were already moving following Halloween, and The Burning and Madman were both being developed around the same time.

Southern gothic, not that I would argue to strongly against it being a slasher. I would argue that not every horror film necessarily falls into a specific subgenre and some fall into multiple.

As an aside, does anyone know when murder scenes in horror movies started to be referred to as ‘kills’? That wasn’t a thing when I was growing up. They were just called death scenes or murders. In the past couple years, I’ve been noticing people call them ‘kills’, which seems like it comes from army combat/video game culture or something. From whence does this term originate?

I just don’t see it as a traditional slasher. We know who the killer is in Halloween and Friday the 13th.

I only remember them as kills. The slashers would have their kill counts compared, and you would describe the kills as goofy, gory or brutal. Death scenes and murders are for other genres.

Top 5 slashers in no order

1.Michael Myers
2.Jason Vorhees
3.Freddy Krueger
4.Leatherface
5.Pinhead

I think almost everyone would have the first 4 on their list. They are the universal slasher kings, and therefore their movies are slashers. Just because the originals were really good don't mean they aren't slashers. It's not a negative term.

Pinhead...I don't know. Maybe in the sequels or the most recent one? but overall not sure I would throw him in the mix. These movies definitely have more of a fantasy/mythology thing to them that I wouldn't associate with slashers.

I was on the fence with TCM but decided I would lump that in with the slashers. The reason I wasn't convinced was because I see that type of movie paving the road for movies like those from Rob Zombie, not those like Scream.

I don't branch them off because of different things. I keep it broad, but I do agree the first Hellraiser doesn't fit if sequels were never made.

Open the box and Pinhead comes and kills you is a different version of, set up a tent in the woods and Jason comes and kills you. Hook chains or a machete it's all just their weapon of choice. Same with Leatherface and TCM. It's not that movies fault Rob Zombie made ripoff movies, and it shouldn't be penalized for it.

Group of kids go here and get killed by masked killer is pretty much Slasher 101.
