So, um, let me get this straight. Spine number 1000 must be something much more special than the other 999 spine numbers because it's number, gosh, 1000? My favorite number is 4 so (add your favorite swear word here) to 1000! I hope it's your average, everyday movie or something so obscure very few have heard of it. That'll show you all! Although my hopes are for De Sica's Shoeshine or Kurosawa's Dersu Uzala, both of which haven't seen a Criterion release in over 25 years.

Here's my hope for spine #1000 - Buster Keaton's "The Cameraman" (1928). We know that it will be coming soon (hopefully) as Criterion participated in the film's recently unveiled restoration. Keaton is arguably the most significant filmmaker who up until now has not had representation in the collection (unless you want to count his cameo in "It's a Madx4 World"). I think giving Keaton spine #1000 would be quite fitting and appropriate.

It would be a more interesting choice than most of what criterion puts out these days and I always wished they put out more films from the 60's. They drift towards European art films and a lot of old Hollywood stuff.

In preparation for "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood", I've been watching old bootlegs of the films from when the film industry was transitioning to new hollywood, circa 1967-1975, and wonder why Criterion doesn't touch a lot of those."Klute" and "Wanda" is a step in the right direction.

I personally don't think #1000 has to be any more special than any other release they have had. I think the fun is in the speculation and the waiting for the announcement. After it is announced and out for sale, it's not as big of a deal. Having said that, I wonder what it will be
