Default Brick?

Kino Insider - Best Buy just cancelled my pre-order for the Brick Bluray. Is this release no longer happening?

Robert Aldrich's '71 version is a grimy, violent, tense reworking of the novel, featuring a slew of fantastic performances and a palpably disgusting, dirty atmosphere.

The performances by the four main actors (Kim Darby, Scott Wilson, Irene Dailey, and Tony Musante) are all pitch perfect. Wilson is extraordinary as Silm Grissom, who is a mix of childlike naivete and psychopathic violence. Dailey is his domineering mother with a hair-trigger temper, Darby is a kidnapped heiress, and Musante is a slickly sociopathic henchman of the "Grissom Gang". Connie Stevens, Ralph Waite, Wesley Addy, and Robert Lansing (looking like he was on a continual bender during filming) round out a terrific cast.

The great Aldrich creates an atmosphere that simply makes the viewer feel in need of a shower. The characters are constantly sweating, drinking and reeking of booze, in cramped, drab quarters. It's a film that I would highly recommend picking up during the next sale.
Sold! Great review. After reading it, I had to order the movie.

I'm a die-hard Robert Aldrich fan, but somehow had never seen this one before. Picked it up during the last sale, and couldn't agree with this review more.

It's a "lost" 70s masterpiece.

Not an exhaustive list, just based on what I have seen:

The Woman in the Window
Scarlet Street
The Spiral Staircase
The Stranger
Hollow Triumph
The Long Goodbye

I also like the Mamie Van Doren Film Noir Collection, but to call those films inessential is an understatement.

Have seen you ask this in a couple different threads. The lists from FilmsNoir.net are a great resource. I’d start with their essentials and then work your way down. Link: https://filmsnoir.net/essential-films-noir/

FYI, Kino sells Hollow Triumph under its alternate title, The Scar.

I Wake Up Screaming
Cry of the City
Road House
99 River Street
The Hitch-Hiker
Their noir boxset

And while I don't consider it a noir, somebody will invariably recommend Hangover Square, which is a terrific chiller.

In addition to titles that others have mentioned, I would add Pitfall, Road House and I Walk Alone.

Coming to DVD and Blu-ray September 24th from Kino Lorber!

Diamantino
A film by Gabriel Abrantes and Daniel Schmidt

"So great! An insane gusher of fun." - Guy Maddin

"An instant cult classic." - Eric Kohn, Indiewire

A gonzo comic odyssey involving World Cup soccer, cigarette-smoking evil twins, Secret Service skullduggery, mad science genetic modification, and a right-wing EU conspiracy. This genre-blending and gender-bending satire is the high-camp masterpiece of 2019!

Kino Insider - you've mentioned having 1 last 'maybe' 70s title in the MGM deal. Is this still at the maybe status, or is it confirmed now?

Yeah, can't believe I forgot to mention Pitfall when I just revisited it the other night...great film.

I Walk Alone is an interesting amalgamation of a 30s gangster film and traditional film noir. Fascinating to me how much solid support Douglas provided, particularly in noir (The Strange Love of Martha Ivers and Out of the Past) before striking leading-man gold with Champion and never looking back.

Both he and frequent co-star Burt did a lot for the genre, especially early in their careers.
