Tuesday is usually the highest grossing day outside of the weekend.

Whatever those theaters "corroborated" for you, was specific to them.

Actually, Tuesdays are predominately slow across the board usually for movies. And that partly has to do with Tuesdays being release days for movies coming to home media. This was especially true back when music was also released on Tuesdays. That competed for a lot of the entertainment dollars. Especially when big releases such as Use Your Illusion I and II or Monster, for example, came out. Now with theaters doing cheap Tuesdays that can make a difference. None of the theaters around here do that. At least not the Regal ones.

They sell more cheap tickets to more cheap people on cheap Tuesdays. @ the end the box office revenues are higher on Tuesdays than the other three week days (Mon. to Thurs). ...Generally data speaking.

* I wish they would re-release Gone With the Wind and Star Wars for Christmas, on a Tuesday.
_____

Speaking of Tuesday, Spider-Man: FFH did better yesterday than Monday.
(Tues.) $8,825,000 (est.) versus (Mon.) $5,527,448 ... by roughly $3.3 million more.

...And not just Spider-Man. I don't know what it is about Tuesdays ... they seem to sell more cheap tickets on that day to more "cheap" (budget conscientious) people and it makes the movie studios more money on that day of the week, cheap Tuesday but rich revenues overall.

We're in the 29th week of the year. Tuesdays have outgrossed Mondays 25 of those 29.

Last year, Monday outgrossed Tuesday 6 times.

Most theatre chains have discount Tuesdays now. So yes, they're taking in less per ticket but are selling out every showing.

Alright, we are all on the same wavelength for Tuesdays, and we know why...cheaper ticket prices but more revenues because more tickets are sold.

It's the truth. So stop posting memes about Avengers beating out Avatar or obsessing over Endgame being the highest-grossing film of all time. It's pointless because it is not going to be even close even after this recent run in theaters.

If you count *tickets sold*, not *ticket prices*, then you'd be looking at a very different ranking (child ticket prices for Snow White and Star Wars, for instance). But, the reason I take box office records with a grain of salt is that decade by decade, so many more venues for entertainment dollars appear, and you reach the point where comparing the environment that created a Gone With the Wind or Sound of Music or Snow White to something like Avatar or Endgame eventually becomes meaningless. I guess I'm trying to say, take it all in good fun, but don't take it seriously.

Bingo. Avatar (well, whomever, Fox, Cameron, fans, etc) has been using "#1 Movie" for what 10 years now in merchandising/sales, bragging rights, etc? But I guess they were just lying to the public as it turns out now it was never even close according to some bloggers, die hard fans and number cruncher's in the know...it has been GwtW all along but they chose to keep that on the down low. Odd. Guess the studio was just exaggerating to the masses to earn more money with their #1 product...those fiends! Of course we can expect Disney, D-I-S-N-E-Y, to do the same with Endgame (whether one believe's the record to be fake, adjusted, legit or other). And why not, they earned it, they should use it. Like I said, they can always just slip a little footnote on all upcoming EG products stating "#1 Movie Of All Time *before re-releases and inflation adjustments of course"...you know, like all the Avatar products have now.

Seriously, I agree with others, it's all in jest and for shits and grins...all of the movies mentioned in this thread are monster success stories and will always be pretty much lumped together as the best of the best.

It's funny how the Avatar supporters use the "it sold more tickets/had better legs at box office" argument and the anti-MCU supporters argue "if you count inflation adjustment..." when discounting Avengers: Endgame success.

The goalposts keep moving every week lol. If it was some other studio's CBM grossing these numbers, there wouldn't have been even a slight mention of Gone with the Wind.

It has taken a whole bunch of movie analysts by surprise I think, Disney/Marvel team first.

The "Bring Back" (re-release thing on June 28) strategy worked, and wonderfully.

For a 3-hour long flick we have to thank the younger audiences across the globe and @ home, I think. Disney is a family movie studio oriented, the most profitable one.

I'm still waiting for yesterday's numbers domestic ...
And starting this next weekend coming up after tomorrow Endgame is going to lose a number of theaters domestic...The Lion King. ...I'd say one third?
_____

For Tuesday July 16 ...
Avengers: Endgame > Domestic: $437,462 / +31% / 1,443 theaters / Total Domestic: $852,382,613

I really despite how people are so quick to resort to the fanboy insult. Every single one of us on this board would quickly be lumped into the "get a life" category from the majority of people. Why can't people just like what they like without being insulted??

I hereby dub you adjusted for inflation fangirl.

Yes, Avatar made a lot of money with DVDs and Blu-rays ... $400 million+ (domestic) ...

They don't mention internationally. That's from The Numbers.

Now, look @ those numbers above (without the second part...DVD & BR sales), and compared to Mojo below ...

And, again from Mojo ...

Maybe we should start a thread about Gone With the Wind (1939 - adjusted for inflation)?
Which other flick could we compare it with? ... Star Wars (1977), The Sound of Music (1965),
The Ten Commandments (1956), Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)?
_____

That would be boring; Endgame (2019) vs Avatar (2009) non-adjusted for inflation is much more fun.

Honestly you could put many of the best films of the last 20-30 years in Gone with the winds position and it would make comparable or better numbers given the run time and lack of entertainment options for its run lol. Not saying it isn't worth noting or remembering or honoring but when I can literally plug in a 20 dollar hacked fire stick and not pay anyone their due, thats a different ball game than even avatar had to contend with.

The point like you said isn't about fandom in here its about the box office results that are absolutely awesome. And even though I like DC, and MCU films most in here except when the occasional superfan or hater wonders in is in here for box office talk.

Exactly and the sheer mass of the first two weeks clogging up premium viewings to quickly get taken out for Detective Pikachu in week 3 is most impressive I know I loved the film but not enough to go through what I went through that first weekend. So I'm sure lots of people that were ready to go back never did.

I'm more impressed with these last 3-4 weeks than I am week 3-5 lol

I'm impressed with yesterday (Tuesday), $437,000+

And I think that even with The Lion King starting Friday, and Endgame most likely losing one third of theaters, it's still going to make $1 million this weekend coming up (Fri. to Sun.), domestic.
