Penton, is Top Gun: Maverick going to be a wild goose trip?
Are we going to be blast off by the cinematography and the adrenaline rush of jet's fuel and sound barrier? Are we doomed for a real treat? Is it going to go beyond and above the original Top Gun (1986)?

What 33 years of cinema advancement technology can bring to the screen of Maverick?

I wasn't all that impressed with Oblivion. It certainly looked great, but storywise I found it rather dull and not very interesting. I hope Maverick is a lot better considering it's the same director.

There are some great jets out there, but yeah, nothing can replace the Tomcat for me. Getting to see those fly in person at air shows (and actually sit in the cockpit of one) when I was a kid was a great experience.

This trailer is refreshing. Feels like it respects the original and is free of any agenda unlike other old IPs these days. Thank god Cruise is in charge of his films and calls all the shots. He doesn't have to answer to anyone. So he ensures his iconic character is shown respect.

M:I-2 is utterly ridiculous, but damn it, it's memorable, has exciting visually arresting action sequences, a terrific Hans Zimmer score, and Woo doing his thing with a $100+ million budget. The Mummy had absolutely none of those qualities.

Oh well, I have to assume Paramount is delighted people are already talking about a feature that won’t come out for another eleven months.

Tom was an absolute pleasure to work with for the past fourteen months and Joe is one of the smartest, nicest and sharpest directors anyone could ever hope to meet. I think people are going to be very pleased with the end result.

Huck, we the people are satisfied with what we've seen so far. So far the trailer seems to hit all the notes of the Tony Scott original. Its sad Tony could not be here to make this movie himself, however whomever is handling this is definitely following certain shots and camera work that made the original so iconic.

I'm disappointed by the lack of strong sunset grads.
Everything else looks great, though.

I wonder if Tom Cruise ever approached Ridley Scott about directing this follow up to what became his brother Tony's breakthrough hit. We know Ridley and Tom know each other, Ridley directed Tom in 1985s Legend.

I don’t know ~ Bob, as I think you have very discerning tastes after viewing the last picture you posted.

The four girls in bikini? ...With some guy in the middle I don't know who but he reminds me of a Geoff guy.

It's funny, we've been pretty poorly served of dogfight pictures since the rise of CGI and now we're getting a new Top Gun with a tonne of practical effects and digital magic.

Trailer gave me Goosebumps ...

No, but really, out of all the digital cameras being used, the Venice, for whatever reason that I'm struggling to articulate, seems to stand out from both Arri and RED.

I can easily see why Cameron also chose it for the new Avatar films based on the footage from the Maverick trailer alone.

Looks to be razor sharp, have an immense sense of depth, and some amazing color accuracy. I can't even begin to imagine how the HDR grade for this is going to look.
