Hulk is a better movie than any of the Marvel Studio movies
This. This. This.

Last (only?) Marvel movie that had an engaged director with a quirky, personal POV, real visual imagination, and tried to do something other than sell more bland, generic corporate "product." I plays like an actual movie and not simply a commercial for kid's toys like pretty much every other MCU movie since.

Also: The Black Panther is boring, overrated crap.

Miami Vice is A masterpiece
Pretty sure this is an established, objective fact.

I don't think James Vanderbilt actually wrote Zodiac. I think he bought it off a better screenwriter and put his name on it.

You're forgetting Spider-Man 2!

I do like Hulk a lot, though. It seems to get a bad rap simply for prioritising dialogue and character development over Hulk smashing shit.

Nope, it's well shot, competently acted and one of those few movies which actually addresses the issue of feminization of masculinity. While addressing it, it also argue that corporates are one of the biggest contributors to the issue as well as the the everyday ratrace.

It's the second best movie from Fincher after The Social Network.

Yeah, right. Tell that to the characters who died in Endgame, or the ones who died in IW and stayed dead in Endgame.

I share the same sentiments about Zodiac as well as Fight Club. FIght club writer Jim Uhls, i guess his other screenplays never got produced.

I heard that Fincher gets heavily involved with the writers, he and james researched for 18 months i guess, before james started writing it. Same with Uhls. Fincher was also involved with Zailian on Dragon Tattoo's screenplay.

So, there's even less to it than I suspected!

Seriously, though, I probably shouldn't single out Black Panther for dismissal -- I find all of the superhero movies tedious these days. I've officially gotten old. Guys in spandex beating the ever-lovin' sh*t out of one another for 2 1/2 hours is my idea of torture now. Engame should have been called Endless. The only one I've even kind of liked recently was Doctor Strange and even that was more of a "well, that wasn't abjectly painful" than an "I actually liked it" situation.

I appreciate Hulk because it's actually a Frankenstein-ian monster movie rather than a superhero action-fest. Much more interesting. The Incredible Hulk (and everything they've done with the character since) is bullsh*t, though.

I think the deal here was Ang Lee was trying to fit an entire Peter David Hulk run into a 2.5 hour movie and it just didn’t play out to the general audience. So it gets more heat than it general should.

That razorblade scene in Hellraiser 2 (unrated cut) is pretty brutal. Definitely something that stays with you.

Kong: Skull Island is an underrated popcorn movie. I think it will become a minor cult classic. Almost as enjoyable as '76 King Kong.

Then people have redefined what "cult film" means, in its entirety.

I think stuff like Cloud Atlas and Speed Racer would fit more into that category.

While I agree that they would fit more into that caractegory, I don't even think I would agree on those, to be honest. Unless I'm recalling incorrectly (quite possible, ), frankly, both were fairly big budget films with wide if not very wide releases. For me, a cult film is pretty low-end budget film with almost no big names attached, and has pretty limited release.

Granted, neither film did well at the box office, but I think that had more to do with quality of the picture than anything else.

You're right. I'll start over and simply say that it will be more appreciated for what it is, just a fun popcorn movie. Even I was pretty down on it when I first watched it. Have watched twice since then, and I like it more with each viewing.

Speed Racer is an amazing film so no I wouldn't blame the tepid box office response on the quality of the wachowskis style but no I wouldn't consider any of these large budget cgi fests like kong island to ever be a cult film. A Modern Cult film would be something like Spring Breakers or Zombie's Lords. Smaller idiosyncratic films with devoted fans.

Against ALL rational thinking on my part, I really enjoyed the first time. I only caught it, I *think* on HBO on night, looking for something to watch. I thought, well, I really like Brie Larson, like the rest of the cast, maybe this will a decent way to spend a couple of hours. It ended and I was like, "WOW! That was SO much better than I thought it be!."

I honestly never expected to like it that much.

I couldn't make it through Speed Racer, but I'm not the target audience either.

I totally agree on a film like Spring Breakers, though. Cast-wise, it's maybe tough to categorize as cult. But as to the sort of film it is, and the content, yeah, I think it's a perfect choice.

Today is the 30th Anniversary of the "Weird Al" Yankovic film UHF. It cost about $5 million and was given a wide release, but the critics hated it and it tanked at the box office. The film is more respected by critics now, and the rabid Yankovic fanbase own it and love it. When Al shows clips of it during his concerts, the applause and cheers are deafening.

This, to me, is the perfect example of a "cult film". Bomb upon release; loved and respected years later. I don't really think the budget matters much.
