Right now it would come down to two players in my opinion.
1. The Pioneer BDP-94HD or 2. the Panasonic DMP-BD10AK Of course the Pioneer retails for $400 more, so if that's where you're buying one, then the Panasonic would make more sense. I actually almost bought the Pioneer one this morning off of Ebay brand new for about $600, but after much deliberation I opted not to waste any money I don't have right now. By the way, if you can wait another month and a half, perhaps you could get one of the best new players out there in the form of the Sharp Aquos player. |

Ok, but you wanted to know which had the best load time, PQ etc...
The PS3 has good PQ, one of the fastest load times of any BD player and is the most upgradable. It also can double as a Media centre and as a media extender for windows pcs or macs |

Yes, but look at the title of his thread. It has standalone in parenthesis which obviously excludes the PS3. |

To add to this, is there any players out there that are Region Free? Meaning it can play all regions A. B, and C. Now not all of my Blu Ray's are imports, but I like having the options open.

Furthermore, the PS3 is being referred to as a BD player by Sony Store personnel. @phil: The PS3 is region free for games and BD titles IIRC. I'm not sure about other BD players. |

The PS3 is still region coded, but so few discs have the region coding on them that it really doesn't matter for BR movies. Games are region free though for the PS3 but the region locks for PS2 games are still in effect, as are DVD's.
Not aware of any region free BR players, unless you want to count Media Center PC's. |

This link below was a statement about the Sharp player on this website: https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=298 This one below is from Gizmodo: http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/hurry-up-...-13-275608.php Basically every gadget website got the same press release to announce. I'd expect some more news regarding this in the coming weeks as we neat its release. |

![]() Just because it can play games shouldn't detract from the fact that it is a great Blu-ray player, even if that is all you are looking for - and is reasonably priced compared to other "stand alones". Plus it has: wi-fi streams photos/music/videos from your home PC Can set wallpapers for start up menus from personal photos Can view/edit photos and create slideshows Has a hardrive for photos/music/videos Has visualizer for CDs Can surf the web HDMI support Supports Lossless audio Supports 1080p/24fps Upconverts SD DVDs to 1080p Supports Folding@home.com (when was the last time YOUR stand alone helped cure diseases?) ![]() Etc. etc. etc. Yeah, let's exclude the PS3 since it is capable of playing games without any further comparisons. Makes sense! |
