I bought this player and shortly got rid of it. Worse player sony ever made and yes freezing issues Sony never fixed and won't. After all these years of making DVD players , blu-ray players, and now 4K players you would think this issue shouldn't happen. The stupid thing Sony did is Dolby Vision. If you don't know by now ,you have to go to settings and turn Dolby Vision on with your remote. and do the same to shut it off. Really, who at Sony thought this was a good idea? Now if you don't shut off Dolby Vision you can't view 3d discs. As far as I know this is the only player that does this. And there new 4K player the 800 for 2019 does the same thing. This is something that can be fixed , yet Sony decides not too. Along with there horrible 4K tvs for 2019 this is just another stupid thing Sony does for who knows why. Makes no sense at all. If I was you I would bring it back and change it out for another brand. Sony has once again dropped the ball on there 4K players.

Is there a 4K player out there that has Dolby Vision that doesn't cost an arm and a leg that reliable?
I like this player but you know, playing Dolby Vision on my Apple TV for the last year and some change has yielded no problems whatsoever. And if I can't find a player that is as reliable as my PS3 was back in the day, maybe it's time for me to get out of the disc game. It wasn't that long ago that disc players use to just work....what's the deal? |

Look guys stop trying to justify this player , it has freezing issues . It's the player end of story. I find when owners of a product is shown proof something is wrong with there product they get defensive because they think someone is attacking there toys. There are numerous complaints on this sony player not just here but other forums. The real crime here is Sony. They did nothing to try to fix the issue and instead put out there x800 2019 player with Dolby Vision and guess what it has freezing issue to! Also the way they implante Dolby Vision is the same as the X-700 . go to settings and with your remote turn on Dolby vision and then after viewing go back in and shut it off. Most other players it's automatic thing. Sony you suck.

honestly Tvine2000 has a point. We shouldn't be dealing with persistent issues like this while accepting it as the norm, and the 700 and 800 series DO have freezing problems. I've had two different X800s due to the freezing issue, and while I thought I had this latest one down to a minimum Alita: Battle Angle is making my x800 freeze like a mother multiple times. My buddy has the X700 and it's frozen at least 4-5 times this year alone. It's getting ridiculous and should NOT be happening on a regular basis, but if you peruse the sony support forums and other forums it's a VERY common complaint. Sony doesn't seem to want to do jack about it, and instead of redesigning their players to get rid of it, they just update their older x800 series with DV and still continue on with the cycle

I have had my Sony x800 for about a year and a half now and I havent had one single issue with it. It has played Blu's, 4K Blu's, cd's, you name it and not ONE single freeze up or anything else. It streams flawlessly as well. It has been one of the best Blu ray/4K Blu ray players I have ever owned. That being said. Sony dropped the ball on the x700 and in my opinion it was a major step back from the x800 which is why I believe the re-released the x800 with Dolby Vision because the x700 was a flop! But some have called Sony Blu ray players junk. Junk? Just take a look at Samsungs Blu ray players. Now those were junk which I believe is why they pulled out of the Blu ray player market.

Bought mine Friday and returned it Monday. Poor WiFi, poor interface and the Dolby Vision support is odd.

Question: I know it's an extreme long shot, but is the UBP-X700 natively region free? The reason I ask is because I bought Anchor Bay's 2003 twofer of Alligator (1980) and Alligator II: The Mutation (1991), the latter one of the seemingly endless American films that can't seem to get a domestic release (even if it isn't a classic by any means). Anywho, I had planned on ordering some stuff to make my player region free, but just to amuse myself I put the first disc in to see what would happen. Much to my surprise, the disc loaded up just fine. I played the movie and skipped through the chapters and audio options just to make sure it wasn't some kind of weird bait and switch. I then did the same with the second disc. Everything I've ever read about this set has had the region coding as 2, so the disc SHOULDN'T have worked, right?
This is the DVD: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101309...r/rm1260483072 |
