I don't know about R2 being 7.1, but it's definitely LPCM (which is the most important thing).

Do these titles default to PCM if you're outputting it from the PS3? I finally got a new receiver (Onkyo 805) and I remember changing Uncharted to DTS in the menus but there's no audio options for games like WipEout or MLB The Show.

Wipeout HD was reported by the dev to be 5.1 DD. Maybe that was just the soundtrack and not the game audio.
