Vinyl, though? Too delicate and too much upkeep for me, but whatever makes you happy. I still have a turntable connected to my home theater, but it almost never gets used.

I'm glad that the UV closure does not appear to have hurt you any. It did cause several weeks of anxiety for many people, but I am not hearing that many horror stories now that it is over and done.

I’m wondering what he’d think listening to music that way. Of course I have to get him into loving music again. I had him help his mom pick up the new Target Endgame exclusive for me yesterday. I’m about to order the Shazam digibook from Australia and considering picking up that Ray Harryhausen Sinbad set that was released a few years back. My only fear there is someone will release them remastered here in the states once I do.
No issues with the UV closure. Just impaitently waiting for paramount, lionsgate and MGM to join MA.

I really have no room for the turntable or the vinyls, but have 5 on the way. Most are coming today, but I ordered a soundtrack from my local shop that comes next week. I want to start collecting movie scores.

These first few are all new. The shops didnt have used copies and wanted too much new so i found them cheaper on ebay and Amazon. I wanted these ones to be new, but I'll be fine getting used ones as i start going to record shops more.

Talking about Vinyl I go way back, bought a Pioneer PL-41 at the PX in Chu Lai, Vietnam back in '69. Also a Sony Reel to Reel Tape Recorder, and would buy LP's to record the music. Copying the music off the LP would give you the best clean sound, instead of copying someone's tape that would give you that hiss. Then when I came back to the States started putting music on 4-Track, then 8-Track, and finally Cassettes. Sold the LP's and PL-41 back in Palm Desert, CA. Still have some Cassettes, good memories and good sounds.

3) Normaly, if someone asks advice on set-up, I would always tell them to prioritize speakers because as investment goes that makes most sense. (to explain myself, let's say 30 years ago someone integrated a 2.0 system in their room, then 20 years ago they upgraded to a 5.1 system, he can easily leave the 2.0 as is and just add the 3.1 speakers that are missing, the 2 in 2.0 and 2 of the 5.1 are Left and right. If the guy upgraded in 10 years ago to 7.1 it just means adding 2 speakers (none of the others need to be changed if the system is balanced and they still work, now if he moves to 7.1.4 again thje 7.1 does not change so the speakers don't need to be changed if everything plays well together)

But the question is can there be a good HT for under 10k of equipment, and I will interpret it being able to use UHD BDs to their fullest, so you can buy a true 4k projector for under 5k$ you can get a 7.1.4 audio set-up for under 4k$ and with remaining 1K$ get a cheap screen and the

No questions, was just curious.

When I ordered my Palliser recliners there was an option for a tactile transducer (bass shaker) to be mounted and included but I passed. I have been asked if I had bass shakers because the two (2) HSU VTF-15H MK2 will give you and the house a good shake when called for.

lol, many years ago my neighbors went away and their kids (early 20's?) threw a party, the guy in back complained about the "boom, boom, boom" and asked if it bothered me. I answered "yeah but it is only one weekend let the kids have their fun". I only have one sub but I worked real hard to make sure it does not annoy anyone one outside or in an other room in my home.
Stale bass is annoying to listen to, but it is also annoying to want to watch something and need to turn it down.

Yes you're right, good set-up means different things to different people. 10K isn't a lot of money anymore, especially to set-up a Top of the Line HT with an elaborate Sound System. Back in the day I use to have a Killer Stereo with big Sansui Speakers, now I just have the UHD TV Speakers or my Sony Headset, and that is good enough for our household.

I do feel that for a decent 4K BD HT it's going to cost more than a 4K Digital. For 5K you can get a real good 4K UHD Display and Sound System. Let alone the cost of the 4K Discs that will keep going up.

4K discs prices have been stable with plenty of bargains to be found. I just bought The Witch on 4K disc for $9.99. There are currently 19 4K disc titles priced at $14.99 and under in the Deals section of this website.

As for prices going up, that will happen to both streaming services and the internet service necessary to access them. My ISP only knows how to raise its prices. Netflix and Amazon Prime do the same. Your viewing preference, streaming, and internet service itself, have seen more price increases over the past few years than have discs.

I am paying pretty much the same this year for discs as I have over the past few years, but Netflix, Amazon Prime, and my ISP have all raised their prices multiple times over the same period. Netflix used to cost me $11.99 per month two to three years ago; now its $15.99- a 33% increase. A year of Amazon Prime was $99, and now it is $119- a 20% increase. My ISP was $49.99 per month; now it is $69.99 per month- a 40% increase. Streaming and internet costs have risen sharply while I am paying essentially the same prices for my discs as I was three years ago.

Alexandre Aja is to direct a interactive horror film that will be released theatrically. It will allow audiences to choose what happens at various points in the film via their smartphone.

You reminded me of that William Castle film Mr. Sardonicus, where audiences were offered a choice on whether the character lived or died at the end of the movie. I guess the film you refer to will be a little more, shall we say, high tech.

Tingle and vibrate. It will be like Fifty Shades all over again with mass female audiences.

what I meant is that I don't know what your threshold for a good system would be if we are talking 1080p, 7.1 (last gen) then you can easily do it for a lot less then 10k if we are talking 4k 7.1.4, like I showed, it can be done but it is tight and you can't go with the fanciest equipment.

OK but why not integrate your two killer Sansui speakers?

Not sure what you mean with that since it does not make any sense. are you saying

1) if we use my example a 10k$ projector system or your 5k$ TV system they will cost less igf used with digital instead of UHD BD?

2) That UHD BD will only work with a 10k$ projector based system and digital a 5k$ TV system

3) digital 4k looks and sounds so bad that you would only want to watch it on cheap 5k$ system built around a small TV so that it mitigates the quality issues while while that is too small and UHD BD looks and sounds so good that you would feel it requires a large projector and fancy audio system to take full advantage of it?

Quote:

they are more expensive then 1080p disks?do you mean inflation? or something other insane reason? Because I know your experience not buying a UHD BD player or movies counts more but in my experience the prices have not been going up if anything they are going down (easier to find sales). On the other hand every few months Netflix here in Canada keeps on increasing the price.

Well, according to the person who never buys 4K discs, or any discs at all, they are going up steadily. Those of us that actually buy them somehow never noticed.

Thankfully, streaming services and internet service providers NEVER raise their prices.

LOL! My Netflix in Canada is now $17 from the original $12, internet from $80 to $120. Prime went up by a lot too. All the while the movie selections of Netflix and Prime in Canada gets suckier.
