"Tomorrow Never Dies" feels a lot more timely now, with it's main villain motives, compared to when it was released in the 90s.

The 4 minute Bilbao, Spain opening segment was the original pre-credits sequence with the Millennium Dome chase following after the titles. Test audiences felt that the bank scene, with Bond rappelling out of the window and nonchalantly walking off with the briefcase full of money was not impactful enough. The London chase was brought forward and added to the existing scene, giving us a pre-credit sequence which now clocks in at a lengthy 14+ minutes. |

I honestly really disliked TND when it originally came out. Over the years I've grown to really enjoy it and now that it's aged it feels like a classic Bond movie.

The opening sequence is one of the series' best. I remember seeing it at the cinema (opening day, natch) and thinking 'blimey, what's the rest going to be like?' I liked the film then and I like it now. Denise Richards isn't enough to spoilt it for me.

It's a genuine period piece of op-art, as opposed to being a weak-kneed recreation like AUSTIN POWERS. It might be dumb as a rock, but the look is really astonishing -- which is kind of how I think of EVENT HORIZON, now that I think about it.

TND was the first Bond movie I skipped in theaters, and I never regretted that. Even when I first saw it on homevid, I find myself fastforwarding all through the 2nd half of the film. Even now I don't think I've ever been able to see it straight through, though I've tried half-a-dozen times. I really like Arnold's score in the PTS, but have a hard time believing much of this outside of Edifice Complex and the Kane reference is actually a Nick Meyer rewrite. How bad was it before he came on?

007 films should be fun. TND is fun! As much as I love James Bond, I'd argue that every damn film in the series has flaws, from a writing standpoint, if you want to nit-pick. Just grab some popcorn, the drink of your choice, and enjoy, and don't over-think it! |

The World is Not Enough is probably my favorite Brosnan film. The nostalgia is nearly as strong for it as for Goldeneye. The opening is terrific and Carlyle and Marceau are wonderful villains. It's inventive and fun and Brosnan really owns the role. And I've never had a problem with Richards really. It's a damn near perfect Bond for me. Serious when it needs to be, playful at times, with a little bit of cheese thrown in. And a terrific theme song and score by Arnold.

Goldeneye is still, for me at least, easily the best of the Brosnan series. It's the only one that doesn't really suffer from the 'third act syndrome' which plagued his tenure. The other movies look and sound good, due in no small part to a fantastic central performance, David Arnold channeling John Barry to perfection and some excellent stunt work, but they all fizzle out towards the end.
The least said about Die Another Day however, the better IMHO. |

D.A.D. starts off as a legitimately good movie with little-no stupid moments....and then at the literal 30 minute mark quickly evolves into something awful.

Watching Pierce Brosnan in fits of laughter at how ludicrous DAD was in the Everything Or Nothing documentary is priceless.
