You can run analog outputs from most players including a new oppo player set to be released at the end of march. This will give you HD audio which is superior to anything your oppo dvd player can do with legacy audio, although I'm sure it does a great job.

As for your television not having an hdmi input, there are other ways to connect your player to the television, component or hdmi-to-dvi, that will still give you the benefit of the 6x greater resolution of a blu-ray disc versus a dvd. Even on non-1080p televisions that difference is easily noticeable.
