Default DVI, HDMI, MINI HDMI whats next?

I dont know if you are sick of all the different HD plugs out there. I am. I liked DVI yes it didnt have sound but it locked in place. then they bring out HDMI. DVI + sound. now mini HDMI. I dont know about this one is it going to stay in place with such a small plug and heavy wire pulling on it. will new components and HDTV's start coming with mini HDMI's. can you see somone with a DVI cable a DVI to HDMI adapter. and then a HDMI to mini HDMI adapter. the thing would be like 3-4" long. my new HDTV in the bedroom has a DVI plug and I'm using it on my DVD player that has DVI.

just wanted to see what you think.

I think Apple's ADC was clearly superior, and it's too bad it was never implemented in the industry.

One cord. Power and DVI Video.

I thought power cables and video cables are not suppose to run next to each other.
because it can causes interference?

What the highest resolution/bandwidth HDMI can support? Will HDMI be able to support 2160p?

HDMI 1.3 supports a max of 8.1 Gbits/sec for video. Uncompressed 3840x2160 @ 24 frames/sec @ 24 bits per pixel would require 4.8 Gbits/sec. However, 60p would require 11.9 Gbits/sec.

So it "sort of" supports 2160p.

Hmm, so we would indeed need a new cable to support 2160p at 60Hz?

no..the cable would be fine...just nothing on either end of the cable is capable of sending or receiving data at that rate, yet...

Something that can handle perhaps up to 8K resolution with a very high bit rate, carries 7.1 PCM 192/24 audio, doesn't have audio sync problems. And off topic, I want the next physical media to be child proof, and rental proof. Something that you have to hit with an axe to make it not playable.

With the digital signal the frequency of the signal from the power cable doesn't overlap with the data frequency, so there is no problem. If the signal were analog you could have issues. This isn't the same case as running power beside analog speaker wire.

This is why I have my own Transformer. Not only is he a different badass car everyday, but a superior future proof television/receiver/BD player, etc.

I dont think they NEED to be that small. HDMI is a nicely sized plug as it is. And I concur, it would probably fall out way easier. But I'll just vote with Xtop for wireless HDMI. Along with wirelessly being able to charge things too Cancer anyone?

Displayport?
Quote:
DisplayPort is a digital display interface standard put forth by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) since 2006. It defines a new royalty-free, digital audio/video interconnect, intended to be used primarily between a computer and its display monitor, or a computer and a home-theater system.

The first version was approved in May 2006, while the current version (1.1a) was approved on January 11, 2008.
