But does that mean between The Post (December 2017) and The Goldfinch (September 2019) there was no movie released in flat with a 4K DCP?

I'm a fan of Road to Perdition and From Hell. Wouldn't call them character studies on the level of Joker, but certainly character driven.

I don't want to, but unfortunately I have to see this day one or else the snot at work will spoil it for me. I'd rather not rush it, but some people can't keep their mouths shut...

Why does this movie scream try-hard to me? Every trailer looks like a 14 year old trying to make something deep and dark, and I say that as a Zack Snyder fan!!! Not sure what's up with me brain.

You are mistaking this as Suicide Squad Joker.

I think audiences should lower there expectations, this wont be a full blown action/adventure comic book movie. From the trailer it looks like a psychological thriller character study. I think the R rating will be for the mature themes rather than violence.

Yeah I can just see the ADD crowd walking out saying it was boring and that it wasn't like the Avengers.

I mean if they’re not paying attention during the trailers, that’s on them. The trailers are doing a pretty good job of selling it as character driven. Also the rating lists “strong bloody violence” so I think it’ll be just as much about the violence as it is about the themes.

Correct. But then again 1.85:1 isn't that much used.

That’s the thing. It’s always a treat to see that AR used in a movie because it’s so seldom seen nowadays. I mean, if I were to make movies, I’d use the 2.39:1 ratio more since I think the stories I’d like to tell would work with that ratio but it feels like people use that because it looks more “cinematic” than if it works for the story. Go watch the Jurassic franchise. The first three got it right by using the 1.85 ratio because the large dinosaurs lended well to that ratio. Then go watch the last film where they look smaller and less intimidating when using the 2.39 ratio. See what I mean?

Yes, the Jurassic Park movies are prime examples.

This is because 90% of directors have the idea that scope means being more of a serious auteur.

I assume that’s just for wide releases, pretty sure with indies, re-releases, and special events there have been other 4K 1.85 DCPs. For instance I believe the Netflix films like Ballad of Buster Scruggs and Velvet Buzzsaw were 4K DCPs.

As for Joker, I doubt I will see the DCP version though, planning on either IMAX laser or standard 70mm.

Yeah, a couple small clips leaked and one was shockingly violent (frankly more brutal than my tastes). BTW, the MPAA has said any theme is allowed to be covered by PG-13, though of course intense depiction of those themes could result in an R.

The BBFC here are potentially might massacre it then. Given for example the blood in Aquaman had to be toned down to get the rating they wanted. Though Warner might be satisfied with it getting an 18 here, and passing with no cuts, given it's smaller budget.
