I've enjoyed every season but with diminishing returns. I even enjoyed a lot about season 8, they just didn't stick the landing. I absolutely love the wooden box set but £300 for a box set (Blu ray so who knows how much the 4K set would cost) is way out of my price range.

I have a feeling that the prices on GOT merch is going to be dropping quicker than the average rate.

I remember when some people (granted, it wasn't many) were claiming that this would go down as the best show in TV history, ahead of The Wire.

Yikes.

If the final season had stuck the landing it would have been. Sadly it crumbled under its own weight.

We’ll see. The prequel series is on the near horizon (too soon IMO) and “Winds Of Winter” will be coming...eventually. I think the property and show will enjoy a strong level of popularity for quite some time despite the general feeling of disappointment with the final season.

Not even close. The show went downhill after season 5, and even before then, it wasn't as good as The Wire or The Sopranos.

Is it a commonly held view that The Wire and/or The Sopranos are ahead of Breaking Bad?

Sure, the latter two can't be Rated R with their content, but I think in some respects that's a good thing. BB and BCS have to know when to use adult language and violence to evoke a powerful emotional punch since they're limited in the amount they can use... that takes some real writing skill. Whereas with an HBO show it's no holds barred all the time... they lose their ability to shock because they're consistently in that mode.

I love both BB and BCS. I actually think BCS may be slightly better in some ways.

Looking forward to the BB movie on Netflix.

Haven't started THE WIRE yet but I'm close to finishing season two of THE SOPRANOS and whereas BREAKING BAD had me completely hooked after the second episode, I'm still waiting for THE SOPRANOS to really leave the runway. It's far from bad, but I'm honestly not seeing what makes it Next Level yet.

It's all about the characters, their realness, the east coast Italian immersion, and its inclusion among regular, real suburban life accompanied with current events from those times. It's the juxtaposition of (what was) modern mafia "family" life with upscale suburban family life and the blurred lines in-between.

The wire remains the best show on TV I've ever seen. That said, season 1 to maybe season 4 of Game of Thrones was approaching it (IMHO).

You just gave me a synopsis of the show, not what makes it, on most people’s lists, the Greatest Show of All Time. Frankly, at this point, similar to DOWNTON ABBEY, it doesn’t feel like much more than an elevated soap opera.

The Wire is great. I haven't any interest in The Sopranos.

Breaking Bad bests any US dramatic television series. How many all-time "great single episodes" are there? Has there been a better final season or even final few episodes? Honestly, I'm not sure what the argument could possibly be against it.

I am a fan of GOT, but, even with few constraints on content or budget, it doesn't touch BB.

Will all the other seasons be available in 4K when season eight is released?

Lol if you put it to a popular vote, Breaking bad and GoT would beat those everyday of the week. Those shows may be good but are pretty niche.

I know I for one would take GOT over BB any day of the week. BB was pretty good, but highly overrated IMO.

And if you want to talk about inconsistent characters...

God no. BB was pretty consistent character-wise and GOT was all over the place.

If anything, GoT is the one that's highly overrated. It sucked people in because of a steady stream of bloodshed and TnA.

I think the reverse is true.

Walter White was about as bipolar as you can get. Just when it looks like he's starting to go in one direction, he completely reverts back to being the opposite.
