Assuming the presentation on this disc is as good as it should be, would this be a reasonable place to start for a giallo newb?

This isn’t really considered a true giallo... I’d probably start with Deep Red, to at least to get a feel for Argento’s style and then move onto Suspiria.

no not really, I'd suggest Tenebrae or Deep Red to start
both I'd say are better films than Suspiria imho
but Suspiria is more of an audio/visual sensory overload

Suspiria is barely giallo, probably not a good primer for the genre. That said, I think it’s the best movie ever made, so if you care about cinema, buy it!

for a start it has the orig 4.0 audio (and now Atmos mix too)
other Italian/UK 4k UHD 's had 2.0 downmix with error's

and as other's have said there was no HDR on other UHD's
and they also have hugely different contrast/look/colours

They're savvy enough to realise that people spent a fair bit of cash on the previous BD very recently so including it again for this release seems a bit pointless, whereas the extras disc is included so it still seems like there's a bit of added value there.
