Don't worry about that guy. He thinks Lifeforce is garbage. Clearly he's not firing on all cylinders.

Indeed, but they're still the exception rather than the norm and CBS were so put off by the response to TNG that they're going nowhere near the remaining SD Treks for a HD rebuild. They've gone ahead with rebuilding MacGyver and Charmed but even those releases have stalled on disc and are streaming only after the first seasons. Warners redid Friends in HD as they had the foresight to cut the show to negative and not just leave it as an unconformed mass of celluloid, so it was an easier transition to make than people might assume (though they still needed to redo any VFX in HD).

It's not simply about having the film elements to hand as they won't just magically leap out of their canisters into the scanner. It still costs time, effort and, most importantly, money https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...&postcount=662 to rebuild any given 2K DI show in 4K and as such these things are few and far between. Fox did it for The Martian's UHD and Sony have done a few (being one of the few studios that insists upon creating a cut negative for a show shot on film but finished on a DI) but even they are cutting corners now e.g. Moon's UHD was an upscale.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

As for the 4K pushback in this thread people have been quite civil about it, and we get enough "1080p is good enough for me!" whiners in the 4K threads so I'll call it a draw. We complain in here, y'all complain in there. This is the way of things.

Here all you fools are waiting for the UHD.

I'm going to buy the UHD, toss the box, and add the disc to the fancy deluxe limited edition Arrow box.

Win win.

Eh, I've got a very good Blu-ray of IB already, I'm not buying it again for some tat in a box, a recycled 1080p SDR transfer and some new extras, it's gotta be 4K or bust. I've caved in and ordered the Arrow edition of RoboCop, yes, but as it offers crucial things to me that the regular MGM disc doesn't (original audio and theatrical cut) then I'm content to justify that one to myself, especially because MGM are a zombified shell of a studio who haven't yet released a single UHD under their own banner so I'll be waiting for a Robo UHD that may never come.

Basterds, on the other hand, seemed like a prime candidate from one of the most UHD-friendly studios to cash in on OUATIH's release and what makes the Arrow BD even more baffling when people talk about a "fancy deluxe limited edition" version is that UNIVERSAL LITERALLY JUST RELEASED A TAT-LADEN 10TH ANNIVERSARY BLU-RAY. Such a bizarre choice from Arrow.....unless it's actually going to be their debut 4K title which would make such a quick triple dip worthwhile.

The only advantage Waterworld’s UHD provides is DTS:X and HDR. If you just want the theatrical cut, it’s a decent release. If you’re not rocking a 4K/HDR set, the included Blu-ray is the same one from years and years ago.

If you want all three cuts shown in 1080p that were all sewn from the same 4K master alongside a full-length documentary and other bonus materials, the Arrow release is the way to go.

I don’t like Waterworld enough to upgrade it to 4K. The Arrow limited edition release is fine by me.
LOL, hardly. Just stating an opinion. But you seem to be bent out of shape off my post.

I am just wondering, if they include the extended cut. The US version is slightly trimmed in 1 or 2 scenes.

The only non 4K Tarantino double-dip I would even contemplate at this point would be for the extended cut of Hateful 8 and the forthcoming extended Django Unchained. Can we please get the former off of Netflix and onto UHD?

As things stand my love affair with all things Arrow shows no sign of stopping, except when it comes to titles that already have excellent releases on standard blu. Not sure what they will add here except a few talking head interviews, a visual essay of some sort, and probably a fancy box or slipcover.

Tarantino said that he's recut Django into a much longer version but when/where this will see the light of day is unknown, it only came up in an interview with him about recutting Hateful 8.

Well, I'm still waiting on the damned Whole Bloody Affair, so I'm guessing it'll be this side of never at this point.

Forgot to mention this, my most desired release. There’s a competent fan edit floating around but it’s compressed to hell and back in 720p and certainly no substitute for the real deal.

That's exactly what my first thought was when I heard about it.

Or even the Roadshow of "The Hateful Eight".

Arrow has done good with quite a few releases so I'll wait and see what they will be including on this one.

Yeah, he mentioned Django's original cut being 4 or 5 hours long. He mentioned wanting to make a deal with a cable or premium channel for it but that was the last time I heard anything of it. While the movie felt long to me, I'd be down to see the extended version

THIS! Why couldn't Arrow get the rights to this! I'd get it day one regardless of price

I would pay stupid amounts of money for The Whole Bloody Affair and Django: Extended Cut.
