Not knowing the specific's, you might be dramatically shorten life from the micro-Led panels if you utilize them too bright. TCL was showing off micro-LED with 1500 nits peak brightness for reference. The other question is heat dissipation from each panel when normally used. OLED display runs pretty cool, how does the modular micro-LED panels compare?

Hey Robert any insight?

Sony selected our company as one of the select ZRD Crystal MicroLED TVs authorized dealers.

Here's the .pdf cut sheet with some custom build sizes and resolutions.

Here's the .pdf brochure

And here's our dedicated ZRD Crystal LED webpage.

Sony's MicroLED has two cooling fans in the back of each module.

Don't think we should rely on company listed peak luminance claims on modular built MicroLED displays as you build them to the size and resolution you want and the peak luminance varies based on the finished display dimensions.

Thanks - the sheet does point to this requiring the following electrical requirements. (200 watts*/ 240 volts = .833 amps)

HD = .833 amps @ 240 volts x 18 units = 14.994 amps
4k = .833 amps @ 240 volts x 72 units = 59.976 amps
8k = .833 amps @ 240 volts x 288 units = 239.904 amps

Now the pdf cut sheet is weird as it states that 16k is only 576 units? That is a bit odd given the x 4 increments of the lower resolutions, but it might be designed to operate in that manner as a cohesive unit matrix in its maximum array.

16k = .833 amps @ 240 volts x 576 units = 479.808 amps.

If you can afford this anyway your mansion has extensive solar panels on the roof.

* = Maximum Power Consumption (per Unit)

In reading my notes, I now see that each MicroLED module is rated at 1,000 nits peak luminance so the entire panel full screen can hit 1,000 nits, which is far brighter than any other HDR display.

Sony's CLED is also rated at 100% of the DCI P3 color gamut.

I can't wait for Sony to release their first CLEDIS to the (mass) consumer market. It's probably going to be for a while though, so I'm hoping for a Sony MiniLED first to hold me over.

At any rate, I hope it is going to be a classic TV like the Z9D. One that will be so poweful and over engineered, it will last for years to come as the absolute best TV money can buy.

Your move, Sony...

Ofcourse not.

But the thing I'm trying to say is, I want my next Sony set to be like the Z9D: one of a kind, the best at what it does and so over engineered, it will stay relevant as a reference TV for years to come.

Yep, it's not hard to discern: you said "last for years" not "it can be purchased for years".

So many of these theaters are beautiful, but for functional purposes I highly dislike them. With unlimited funds, I would never do something like this. Light reflections are horrible in commercial theaters and they would be worse with this.I saw one home theater "exhibit" posted somewhere around a decade ago, I don't remember if I saw it at HDD or AVS, but it was an all black theater with corrugated black soundproofing panels. I thought it was great and I wish I would have saved the images. I thought it was perhaps it was Joe Rod's but looking at pictures of his theater, it was not his. With THIS one (what I'm responding to), I like the screen size and seating distance. Though with these kind of screens, is audio and acoustic transparency something people don't care about?

I went for the 940D (model directly below the Z9D in Sony's line, though the chasm was great between the two in terms of lighting "zones"...and also price) - mainly because the Z9D was almost three times the price of the 940D when I purchased it. The 2017 models dropping 3D led to a severe case of FOMO and I went with the 940D rather than risk waiting for enough money saved up for the Z9D and ending up with neither. I wish I would have known how long that Z9D was going to remain 'in stock' at various stores, I could have waited.

Though other than the lighting zones, reviews made these two to be very similar in performance, the 940D being the 'best bang for buck'. Later on the processor thing became another issue, with only the Z9D getting the DV upgrade. Still don't know whether I should have buyer's remorse over this decision. I almost went with an LG over both Sony's because of the 'motion blur' on high contrast images which both suffer from to some extent.

I bought the 940D immediately upon launch. I'll never forget the moment the Z9D was announced, I was like wuuuuutt?! I bought a 65Z9D for the bedroom after that while still having the 940D in the living room.

Anyway, while still a great TV, the 940D can't touch the Z9D. Peak brightness is way lower than the Z9D, the Z9D's X1E processor fares better and the 940 has traditional FALD with "only" about 96 zones. But besides that, the 940 has a design flaw. Because of that, you can see the FALD grid during very bright scenes with HDR content. That was the main reason I got rid of it and bought a 75Z9D instead.

Edit: the 65Z9D occasionally has the same "motion blur issue" as the 940D, otherwise known as the "trailing issue". The 75Z9D however, does not exhibit this issue at all.

This model is no longer sold, does 3D because it started to sell in late 2016 when they still supported that.

Now that is said back to 8k discussion.

Hollywood Director Barry Sonnenfeld Bashes ‘Problematic’ HDR, ‘Stupid’ 8K - CEPro

Famed Hollywood director Barry Sonnenfeld is not a fan of some of the new TV technologies that are driving the market, namely HDR and 8K.

Quote:
“Congratulations… for the first time in history we now know when a puck goes into the net because you see it go into the net [because of 8K] and not because the light and horn go on,” says Sonnenfeld sarcastically, while also admitting he does not watch hockey.

“For sports, 8K is great,” says Sonnenfeld, but otherwise says it is “a waste… it’s stupid.”

He says cinematographers today go out of their way to use older lenses and filters on digital cameras to make a movie look like it was not shot with a 4K or 8K camera.

Warburton says 4K and 8K cameras make everything “look like a soap opera.”

Sonnenfeld does not believe movies should “look like reality,” but instead be a medium for “telling stories.”
Yeah one of those types.

Never understood this idea that sports always benefits from higher resolutions, as opposed to higher frame rates. I'd rather watch football in 1080p@120Hz rather than 4320p@30Hz.

No programming, no problem: Chinese TV makers join 8K club - Nikkei Asian Review

Quote:
OSAKA/GUANGZHOU -- Chinese manufacturers will soon market their own 8K high-definition televisions, despite a dearth of content currently available for the next-generation technology.

Haier will put its 8K TVs on the market in China by the end of this year, then in Europe and other regions starting as early as next year. Hisense will also roll out 8K models in Europe as soon as next year, and TCL said it will launch its own offering that same year.

The players are attempting to gain an early foothold in a growing market. The market for 8K TVs worldwide will multiply to 8.26 million units in 2023, up from just 28,000 last year, according to the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association.

The Chinese TVs were featured at the IFA electronics expo held in Berlin through Wednesday. Haier unveiled its 75-inch product while Hisense showed off how the dual-layered LCD screens can produce rich contrasts and depth. The 8K TVs showcased by TCL utilize quantum dots, or nano-sized particles engineered to glow and emit certain colors. The quantum dots reproduce vivid imagery in 65-inch, 75-inch and 85-inch models.

However, 8K TVs accounted for less than 1% of all flat-panel TVs worldwide, and the ratio will only inch up to 3% in 2023. In contrast, the market for 4K TVs exceeded 90 million units last year, constituting nearly 40% of all TVs.

Limiting demand for 8K TVs is a lack of programming. In Japan, the public broadcaster NHK began airing 8K shows in 2018, but no TV network abroad has followed suit, according to NHK.

Sharp, the first company to release 8K TVs, is determined to help expand the market. The Osaka-based company debuted a small 8K video camera and a notebook computer that can edit footage. Sharp plans to sell the equipment to video production companies.

4K TVs started to take off after Netflix and other video distributors began to put out content in the high-definition standard. But Netflix says there are no plans at this stage to release 8K programming.

"We will immediately demonstrate that the technology to make [8K models] is available," said a representative at Chinese TV maker Konka Group.
