4. The Beyond
5. Cannibal Holocaust

9. The Shining ('80)
10. Bram Stoker's Dracula ('92)
A few thoughts: God bless you for understanding evil dead is the superior outing from the original two films. This is a strong list, however you forgot Carpenter's Thing.

Not that anyone cares about my list, but it isn’t like there’s much to discuss about the disc yet. So...

Jaws
Alien
The Shining
Psycho
Silence of the Lambs
The Evil Dead
The Thing
Green Room
Rosemary’s Baby
The Devil’s Backbone

The Thing is right up there! Honestly it could probably overtake Dracula.

Kubrick apparently screened Eraserhead to Cast of The Shining to get them in the right mood
he has also mentioned The Exorcist & Rosemary's Baby as being among the best of the genre in his opinion in some of his interview's

I could be wrong, but I seem to remember the book suggesting that Regan turning her head is an illusion.

The illusion angle is one I've considered, too. We're shown that Pazuzu is capable of this kind of thing, so it's certainly possible.

In the film though, the visual of Regan twisting her head is presented in a very straightforward, matter-of-fact manner. When we know something is an illusion, like Karras' mother, it's a bit more like dream-like. So I don't know...

But to compare either of them to The Shining in terms of writing, acting and overall craft is ludicrous imo.

Halloween has a great story, but not the psychological depth or the incredible cinematography/production value of The Shining. It was made on a minuscule budget and the acting is mediocre at best...and frankly subpar when compared to a classic performance by one of the greatest actors of all time.

Suspiria wows from a visual/audio perspective and delivers a scary vibe, but the “story” is preposterous and the writing and acting are both shite. At least compared to what you get in The Shining.

There’s nothing about The Shining that feels like a B-picture.

...not the case with the other two.

...which I love.
My take on this: film as an art form is essentially a combination of multiple other art forms. A marriage of photography, theater, literature, music, etc.

With this in mind, I've increasingly come to disagree with this idea that a film needs strong writing, acting or whatever in order to be considered great. Since a film is made up of so many components, it can represent an outstanding achievement in one or two of those departments, and that can be enough to elevate it as a whole.

Some films feature great scripts and performances, but are visually bland and pedestrian. Some, like Suspiria, maybe aren't so strong in terms of writing and acting, but the cinematography and score alone are more than enough to make it a classic. Different films, different strengths is what I'm getting at.

Okay, I'll jump on the bandwagon.

01. Jacob's Ladder
02. Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me
03. The Evil Dead
04. Alien
05. The Last House on the Left
06. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
07. Inferno
08. Don't Look Now
09. Possession
10. Peeping Tom

Was tempted to include Aliens, but I view it more as an action flick.

Rather than arguing over whether or not something is a B-movie, can we actually define the term? Because clearly nobody in this thread is using it to refer to actual B-movies.

Interesting how a lot of folks regard The Silence of the Lambs as a horror film.

I personally consider it a thriller with some horror elements, but I guess it just goes to show the subjectivity of the genre.

You're in a forum full of people with hoarding, collecting and OCD tendencies. Of course we love compiling opinion based lists only we care about.
