Better than the slipcover talk you’ll get in a week, no? We’re ****ing nerds. Give us a break.

I personally consider it a thriller with some horror elements, but I guess it just goes to show the subjectivity of the genre.
I’ve felt the same, also with Jaws, but they’re pegged as horror from so many sources, that I consider them both now.

My top 10. No particular order except number 1 and 2.

1. Halloween (1978)
2. Halloween 2 (1981)
3. Carrie (1976)
4. Prince of Darkness
5. The Exorcist
6. An American Werewolf in London
7. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
8. Let Me In
9. Fright Night (1985)
10. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

I would have Aliens on here but that film is so hard for me to categorize. I can't figure out if it's a Horror or more Sci-Fi/Action Adventure.

I gotta say, it's refreshing to discuss shit in a thread dedicated to The Shining which doesn't devolve into 'WhAt'S ThE AsPEcT RaTiO?' or 'StEpHEN KiNg'S a HaCK.'

**** it, I'll join in. This is my top ten, based on how I feel lately:
  1. The Phantom Carriage (Victor Sjöström, 1921)
  2. Kwaidan (Masaki Kobayashi, 1964)
  3. Jaws (Steven Spielberg, 1975)
  4. Alien (Ridley Scott, 1979)
  5. Psycho (Alfred Hitchcock, 1960)
  6. Black Christmas (Bob Clark, 1974)
  7. Lake Mungo (Joel Anderson, 2008)
  8. Noroi: The Curse (Koji Shiraishi, 2005)
  9. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (Robert Wiene, 1920)
  10. The Innocents (Jack Clayton, 1961)

The Exorcist, The Shining, Onibaba, Kuroneko and Dark Water are close runner-ups, among others.

Like some others, I always considered Jaws more of a thriller-adventure, but it's so widely considered horror that I've come to accept it as (at least partially) such. It's a masterful piece of filmmaking, in any case.

I guess, but the only way to get away from such stuff is to derail the thread completely

Ah, much better than a bunch of horror lists that include the movie the thread is about.

The Shining is horror... people are ranking their favorite horror films... The Shining pops up on several lists.

Good enough.

The lists have absolutely nothing to do with the movie or the disc for that matter, which is what this thread is all about.

The one that enables me to watch The X-Files.
People who watch that don't typically have relations with women.

Other than where we rank it among our favorites of the genre it’s in? Yeah, nothing at all.

Just had some salad. It wasn't quite as horrifying as The Shining.

I don't think I'm enough of a horror fan to have a Top 10 lol, it'd be too mainstream.
