Also, I don't want to extinguish anyone's anticipation for the extended version, but for film-length comparison's sake, I popped my copy of Godfather II into my computer to look at its stats. The film itself is 200 minutes (3hr 20m) long and takes up 44.9 GB of the disc.

If New Line, or WB, or whoever, wants to fit 4 hours and 11 minutes of The Return of the King (EE) onto a single 50GB disc, they're going to have to do a lot of squeezing...

I'll try to wait for the EEs, but I'm probably going end up caving and picking up the theatrical versions. Normally I'd wait, but LotR is soo worth it.

Yeah, they may have to make them 3-disc releases; two with the movie (and commentaries) and one with the appendices.

if they have no extras or anything whatsoever on the disc they MAY be able to fit the extended cuts on one BD-50
but thats just my guess
with no evidence to back it up

Agreed, but it would be nice to have them each as one continuous feature.

I doubt it. Maybe they'll invent larger blu-ray discs just for LotR.

I'm probably going to cave and buy and buy the theatrical versions if the EE doesn't come out until late 2010 or 2011. Theatrical won't be a day one buy unless its a knockout price.

if its like 45-55 bucks like X-men, hell yea im going to buy it day one
if its like 100bucks (probably will be high i assume), i'll wait a month or two for it to drop

According to 1.5, I wouldn't worry much.

yea thats what i was getting at with my next post after that
just tack on another layer
60-75GB would be more than enough for the film
so no problem

Should I make all of you jealous by saying I have the original showing of The Two Towers EE from Starz-HD (yes, in OAR) on DVHS from way back when?

I remember that playing, but I don't think Starz offered HD back then. What service was it on?

As soon as Comcast picked up Starz-HD, they pretty much ran it (2003-4?).

For some strange reason Starz-HD never ran Fellowship EE or RoTK EE, just TT EE (and it was so long I had to split it up on two tapes).

Still, DVHS has its uses. I have all the Star Wars movies from the HBO showings a few years back (also OAR).

Peter Jacksons extended King Kong of 200 min is on 1 disc and it also have 90 min of PiP track on and that Blu ray is referance quality so there will not be a problem fitting ROTK on 1 disc at all
