Amazon hasn't shipped mine yet but as long as I get it tomorrow, all will be well. Still tempted to pick up the Best Buy Steelbook but I think I'll save myself the $5.

I think it will be like any other 4K movie, pop it onto a USB stick and plug straight into the TV lol.

No, there are several ways to play it on TVs. Most common is to remux the new audio track into the MKV, put on a thumbstick and plug into the TV or UHD player. Some also use network streaming, PLEX, etc.

Yeah I agree. I mean the ‘80s obviously began with 1980, but movies didn’t start looking really “80s” (or what we’ve now come to associate with the ‘80s) until 1983/84 with movies like Flashdance and Scarface, etc. For example, I think Friday the 13th The Final Chapter looks way more ‘80s than Part 3, which only came out 2 years prior. Movies that came out around 83/84 onwards look way more ‘80s than most movies that came out between 1980-82. Early ‘90s still looked very ‘80s as well, just as the early 2000s still looked very ‘90s. I feel like it takes a few years into a new decade before things that define that particular decade settle in.

I agree but it may have started in 82 when you had Blade Runner, Fast times at ridgemont, The Thing, E.T.

For me, E.T. is the official point of transition from 70's to 80's culture.

Do I wish it had everything you listed? You bet

Do I regret buying this in its best presentation ever? Not at all.

But people not buying this we are just hurting the format because titles that take this much care won’t be released. You want EYes Wide Shut it depends how well the Shining does.
And scaring people like me off our forums is the BEST MOVE YOU CLOWNS GOT? You know how close I am to blocking all you thankers?? Trust me I get PM's from others that think the same!! Get real Boycott or Buy, but hate on me for facts? Kubricks rolling in his grave at you people smack talking this not being in 1.85 or MONO. Needs to change around here.

I'm not saying don't buy it, but no way does this deserve 90+ as a Movie it's 100 as a release this thing is maybe 60% what WE fans deserve. Don't play it any other way. YOU ARE MISSING THE SOUND AND THE PICTURE. Last time I checked those were important. And something you get RIGHT not WRONG.

No, I'm with Matt89 on this one... having grown up in the 80s, it didn't really start to feel like its own decade until about '84. The early 80s did have their own look and feel with the New Wave stuff, but a lot of pop culture and styles including film and TV were a holdover from the late 70s, it was very much a transitional period as one would expect. You can't really use a movie like Raiders as a gauge anyway as it's a period piece.

Nah. Raiders came out during the transition period. We still had a '70s mindset. E.T. is my pick as the turning point in the culture. Things changed again in 1984, and that is what younger people think the 1980s were...the period from 1984-1989.

I just have one question how can you rate the release as a 60 if you haven’t even seen it? Have an open mind instead of trashing releases on a public forum. The people defending it have actually seen it .

By the way you’re the one attacking people calling them clowns when no one has called you any derogatory names.

I think that's just an inaccurate perception we have in retrospect. Forgive me while I over simplify things. Spielberg was essentially the architect of the blockbuster formula with Jaws, Lucas then cementing it with the success of Star Wars. Which then lead to Hollywood slowly favouring directors like Spielberg who were commercially malleable.

This was all part of a major industry shift into what I call at least call the early corporate period, which really didn't take full effect till 84 when the film's that were quintessentially 80s started appearing.

So the likes of E.T is more a forerunner, as is Close Encounters Of The Third Kind. Which also looks a lot younger than it's vintage.

If someone could follow on from my post with a snappy and informative post about the brat pack. I think that will be useful for shaping things in people's mind about the period.
