Hi everyone, I just recently began collecting steelbooks. I prefer to purchase them at my local Best Buy so that I can check for scratches, dents or loose discs, but some releases aren't available at Best Buy.
A good example is the recent Apocalypse Now 4K steelbook from Zavvi. It's available to purchase now, and Best Buy doesn't even have it listed as a pre-order. I'll order it from Zavvi if that's my only option, though I have had to return a couple of Zavvi purchases before due to damage. Is there a way to know if a release is exclusive to a retailer? I have seen where a retailer will have exclusive artwork for a release, but multiple retailers will be selling the steelbook. I'd just like to avoid situations where I miss out on a release that sells out quickly because I was hoping it would come to Best Buy, or even a U.S. retailer. |

I have a steelbook question! So I was just digging around in my closet and I found two old videogame steelbooks that I don't want or need. One is for The Witcher 3 and the other is for Fallout 4. I'm mostly wondering if there are folks out there looking for random steelbooks that they can customize for movies, cause I'd be happy to sell and ship them for cheap.

Was wondering if there was any news of a premium edition from Manta, NOVA, HDZeta, or anyone else? I have all of the previous DCU movies in premium formats and figured I would have heard something by now about Shazam.

I've been starting to notice how the steelbooks are starting to take up the $35 recently and been starting to realize that normal releases are getting cheaper than steelbooks with some as low as $7 for 4ks.
I want to ask this to help make a decision because I'm a bit torn on this... "Should I continue to get steelbooks, or is it worth getting the normal releases instead for a better deal?" |

I think it goes beyond "can you afford it?" It's more about, what can I do with ~$35 or so that is the best use of that money?
There are many steelbooks I could tell technically afford easily but I won't buy them because I can do other things with that money that represent better bang for my buck ![]() |

I think like most, I was drawn into the Steelbook collecting game for the novelty aspect and because of the beautiful artwork many had.
Lately though, the novelty has grown thin and the artwork in many cases is either the same as the amaray or in some cases, worse. I now lean more toward purchasing only Premium Eds in Steel (i.e. BF, Manta, FAC, etc) and unless there's a truly gorgeous ed available from some of the more commercial vendors (i.e. Best Buy, FYE, Zavvi, etc) I'll often settle for a nice amaray/Scanovo, ideally one with a few extras. Also, as many have said, buy what you like but only buy what you can afford. ![]() |
