It does? Yeah, I don't get it. Why should the hobbyist feel personally insulted?

Got around to watching tonight. I thought it looked and sounded wonderful. It was a bit distracting though because I was constantly looking at the new detail rather than soaking in the movie.

I think most of us are guilty of this initially with every good new UHD. Then it becomes fairly mundane we have something that's essentially a film print digitally on a disc. Then we need our next hit/fix

Anyone else watch a standard Blu-ray, and HDR grade it in their head as they are watching? Lol

Yep, we're all basically DJ's..................Disc Junkies!

Had Apocalypse Now, the Shining, Black Hawk Down, Glory and Aladdin in the space of a couple of months yet I'm still looking ahead to It's a Wonderful Life, Apollo 11 and the Craig Bonds! Such is 4k-ing life!

Watched this last night with the other 'arf who's sat through gawd knows how many viewings over the years, even she commented on how good it looked and sounded.

If that's not an indicator on the quality of this release I dont know what is

Along with Don't Look Now, my favourite release of 2019 thus far.

What kind of authority is she on UHD?

About the same as I am on designer shoes, handbags and sanitary towels.

Looking at all these reviews make me wonder if something is wrong with my disc

First half I was having issues with blurriness and motion judder, which I haven’t had with any other 4K discs. I completely recalibrated my TV, which resulted in fixing those issues, bringing back detail and stopping any blur or judder, however the colours are still nowhere near as vivid or popping as any caps I’ve seen for this show.

I calibrated my TV using the calibration guides on my player, an Xbox One S, and both my TV and the player are correctly set up for HDR10+, as indicated on both the TV and player, and having no issues with HDR on any other discs.

Does anyone have any suggestions? My TV is a Samsung Series 6 50 inch

For reference, other 4Ks I’ve watched recently and found to be an incredibly huge upgrade PQ and HDR wise before I recalibrated are Casino, Apocalypse Now and Alien

I believe there is some camera wobble in the opening credits flyover and at 24 FPS, given the speed the helicopter was flying, some blurring here is inevitiable....but I didn't experience any blurriness elsewhere. I think the detail is good but I didn't feel it rivalled the best 4K discs in that respect. It was all very natural however, and the colour far richer than any previous releases.

I would normally advise against any form of motion handling, but I used to use blur reduction 10, Judder reduction 0 on an older Samsung set which gave a slighly more natural fluidity without any obvious SOE etc.

I also preferred Apocalypse and Alien but you have to consider different film stocks, cinematographers and the overall look envisioned by the director......FWIW I believe the transfer is absolutely perfect for what it is meant to be.

It was more a judder everytime the camera moved, and a general lack of sharpness, both of which I found improved when calibrating by fiddling with the settings and turning sharpness all the way down and a sneaky mild motion setting (not the typical soap opera effect one) off, revealing an actual layer of grain and no issues with motion, which did make it look a hell of a lot better than before.

However, I still can't for the life of me work out why the colours are not even close to those in any of the caps I've seen for this title, as they're no richer than the old blu ray, if not weaker. Rn it's on movie setting, the colours have been calibrated using the calibration screens, the dynamic anythings are all off (not that they helped when they were on), and the HDR is functioning on both my player and the TV

Could it be perhaps HDR conversion on the caps exaggerates the colours? Or have I become accustomed to saturated colours on an older release

Yes, Sharpness should always be neutral or off depending on your display as this will adversley affect the image and be more noticeable in movies shot on film...

I would say the colour conversion from HDR to SDR would have the opposite effect, namely to make the colours less vivid and more washed out....so not really sure what to make of that

Blu ray colour can appear initially more vivid sometimes given it is limited to a much smaller colourspace....but I often find blu ray's can appear garish when A/B'd with their counterpart UHD's

I'm starting to think it might just be a result of either my being accustomed to the colours of the older release, and my monitor I used to view the caps not being properly calibrated.

Either way, I have a properly calibrated TV now, but will have to completely restart my viewing of this disc with a fresh mind set another night, as I just can't shake the feeling that something is off still after watching the first 3/4 with incorrect settings to some form of another.

How I never noticed the effects of these settings though on any other 4K discs....

Watched my copy for the first time yesterday, I was EXTREMLY happy with the image quality. Took me over 3 hours to watch it, because I kept re-watching / rewinding to see things again. Great disc, really impressed. Will likely end up being one of my favs of the year.

I have a similar TV or the same (samsung series 6 50)- you are just not going to get great HDR with a TV like this.

I have compared several UHD releases and compared the blu ray disc and HDR disc and the difference on some is barely anything. Larger and higher spec TV is needed to get the best from HDR/DV I am afraid.

Big thanks to member Sowhatwhocaresyo for making a custom insert with the original poster art, which I printed out today! It was made for the original Blu so there are no 4k markings on it but it's great nonetheless. Looks super classy in a black case. Be sure to go check out his other customs!

Just put the original cover under the inside tabs with the back-side up.
That reprinted front is still outstanding.
