Why couldn't Scream just alert us of titles soon going OOP?

Not too difficult a concept really.

Make an announcement on FB. See an uptick in sales. They benefit. We benefit.

Is there more to this and I'm just oversimplifying???

Thankfully I have most of the ones I really care about but will probably grab a couple I’ve been only mildly interested in just in case.

Amanda, a young college student played by Susan George (Straw Dogs), arrives at the secluded Lloyd house, and, after a short introduction to the mother, played by Honor Blackman (Goldfinger), settles in for the night to babysit the couple's three year-old son. As soon as she and the child are alone, however, she begins to hear strange noises all around. In due time, she will see a mysterious face peering through a window. The Lloyd family has a terrifying secret, and that secret has finally come home.

The atmospheric 1971 British psychological thriller, Fright, which was directed by Peter Collinson (The Italian Job), is an effectively unnerving proto-slasher which paved the way for the babysitter-in-danger subgenre that would flourish later that decade with films like Halloween (1978) and When a Stranger Calls (1979). Contemporary moviegoers may roll their eyes at the now-familiar conventions of eerie sounds and false jump scares during the first half of this feature, but I cannot imagine anyone not being captivated by the subsequent exploration of a twisted mind that guides us to an amazingly tense conclusion.

Ian Bannen (The Flight of the Phoenix) ushers in some narrative curveballs as a man who comes to the aid of our unsettled heroine around the halfway point. George Cole (Cleopatra), along with Blackman, lends some classic prestige to the picture. Susan George, however, owns this dark endeavor as one of cinema's most underrated scream queens, and her ability to convey terror through her eyes sells us on the most mercilessly bleak moments. Her final scene is a marvelously convincing depiction of trauma and frayed sanity.

Fright incorporates several unexpected nuances into its 87-minute run time. If you are at alone at home and looking for a chiller that will have you hitting the pause button with each normal household sound, then this slice of 1970s mayhem hits all of the right notes.

I am hesitant to embrace hyperbole, but I feel secure in my statement that this Scream Factory Blu-ray presents us with one of the best-looking Blu-ray transfers in my collection. This is what high definition is all about, and it is a solid example of this label really stepping up its game. British historian Kim Newman delivers a fine analysis in a supplementary interview about the film's place in British horror.

A handful of titles in that list I was interested in, but I've been buying a lot recently. So for now I snagged the two I'd most hate to miss out on, Leviathan and The Town That Dreaded Sundown.

I've done a pretty stellar job of amassing my Scream titles during sales over the years, so Dolls is really the only one from that list I need to grab (which I was hoping to do anyways this month...just might not wait too long for that $15 sweet spot.)

I have a feeling that ether MGM ended their deal with Shout (possibly from dropping too many lesser titles in required packages, similar to what happened with Twilight Time). Or SF feels the MGM catalog is all tapped out of well known titles and cult classics, and as part of not renewing deals with them are letting the lesser titles and poor sellers go OOP, while keeping the bigger ones and best sellers until their 5-8 year licences run out.

Otherwise we've would've seen new MGM title announcements from them like we had prior to last year. If they did have Terminator, it would've been too big to hold back during their SDCC announcement slate. Something tells me things happened behind the scenes are silently listing titles as OOP instead of making a big deal about on FB and leak things that shouldn't have been said.

I don't know. I think they are just letting slow sellers go, as they most likely renewed the titles that they double dipped on: Ninja III, The Howling and Lifeforce. And they keep saying that Vincent Price Vol. 1 is likely to return in 2020.

However, the lack of new MGM title likely has to do with Scream focusing on rushing out their recent Fox pickups and the StudioCanal titles, dwindling selection of MGM titles and an increased competition from other labels for those MGM titles.

Why would Shout Factory make it easier for you all to sit on your wallets and not buy titles your interested in for a 5 years then bail you out? If you miss out, then you deserve it.

I don't think that's a fair point considering the almost 500 things they have released. Not to mention you have other studio releases in that time frame, too. When we have 15-20 new Blu-rays drop almost ever week, it's difficult to keep up sometimes.

Yeah, because people don't have other releases to consider or bills in the material world to worry about...their wallets exist solely for acquiring SF product.

Putz.

Yeah, I'm surprised they didn't announce they were going OOP and then keep them full priced on their site forcing everyone to really feel the burn of not grabbing them at lower prices.

QUICK EDIT: For real though, why should Shout or any company care what other companies are doing? You are not forced to buy anything at all. For all we know the number of stock was already ridiculously low that there was no point in announcing anything.

Shout Factory is a business that exists to make money. It's not concerned about fairness or being your friend. They make a product and you can choose to buy it or not. That's where the relationship begins and ends. It's not in their best interest to allow customers to wait 4+ years for the right time to buy their product. They need to recoup initial expenses and continued storage of unsold product costs money. They need their customers to be concerned that a title could go OOP at anytime or people would wait years to buy titles they are interested in (as you and the chorus boo hoo'ers have shown). Myself, I prioritize the smaller labels over Shout Factory, Kino and Arrow because I know I have years before I need to be concerned. But I do get to purchasing with a year or so. The lack of business sense by forum members here is astonishing. And you with the name calling SeanJoyce. Grow up.

It's because in the past, they have been very good about updating consumers with the information. Lifeforce, Terror Train, etc. They don't owe us that courtesy, but it's always nice to know. Scream used to be a lot more customer oriented. Not so much these days.

Personally, I grab what I want when I can. If I really want a title, it's not usually five years later. But it's not a good look to mock other forum members because they don't want to miss out on a title they didn't get. I thought this place was about collecting and enjoying movies, not tearing each other down over business practices of these companies and other's buying habits.
