So next year we're getting the BTTF trilogy in 4k with the potential of all Star Wars and Middle Earth movies in 4k as well! After those come out we've just gotta wait for Indiana Jones, Jaws, Aliens, and Terminator 1 and then we're good.

Hopefully they're done right and not just the bare minimum treatment. Regardless, this is obviously awesome news.

In the first film, when the flames left by the DeLorean on the Twin Pines Mall parking lot shoot under Doc & Marty's feet, it has always been glaringly obvious that they (or the flames) were superimposed in the scene. In 4K it will probably look even more fake.

Next year will be Jaws's 45th anniversary. I say a 4K version is guaranteed.

The BDs were the old HD masters used for the DVDs with EE and processing to boot. Hopefully Universal dosen't completely botch things like with JP and Spielberg + Zemicks & crew create new transfers with minimal DNR/processing.

Universal's 4K track record has been very good as of late, for the most part.

Uni have surprisingly turned things around with the 4k format overall. So far I've felt Uni have had a nice balance between delving into their deep catalog and also doing proper restorations with tools like DNR utilized well instead of being abused like past atrocities. Fox haven't released jack all year, while Disney's gone DNR and atmouse mad abusing filmmaker intentions, while paramount has been inconsistent as he'll. What a year

That is true, as The Big Lebowski UHD is a massive upgrade over the smeary BD. However, Universal's Waterworld UHD is a completely different 4k master than Arrow's BD, and exhibits color timing issues & restoration glitches the latter does not. Anything can happen knowing Universal, so I wouldn't set expectations very high and see how the outcome turns out.

I feel bad for movie fans that haven't jumped on the 4k Bandwagon yet. It would cost a FORTUNE to play catch up.

That's why I have over 300 4K titles and don't have 4K equipment yet.

I am wondering how the VistaGlide footage will work out as a 4K scan.

One of the worst aspects of the current BluRay master (which was DNRed and then resharpened) was how those scenes looked: blurry and lacking detail.
On the untreated HD master (available as a DCP for Part 1 and various HDTV recordings of 2 & 3) they fit in much better with the rest, not sticking out like a sore thumb.

Even though I haven't upgraded to 4K yet, I'll be getting this Day 1. Least when I do upgrade I will be future proofed and I take it that the BD-50s should look better too? Plus, I haven't got around to getting the 30th anniversary trilogy even though it's been affordable enough.

With this release, I will have 5 of my top 5 movies of all time on 4K disk.
Matrix, Blade Runner, T2, TDK, and Back to the Future.
Hoping for announcements for Aliens, Robocop, Raiders, Star Wars and Empire (theatrical Cuts).

I wonder if it's worth waiting for the PS5 if you're waiting to take the plunge on a 4K player. You'll have a 4K player, a games console, and a media center all in one.
