Finally I can toss my old blu-rays (assuming Universal doesn’t f*ck it up - but I have more faith in them with their recent remasters).

Doesn't feel that DNRed honestly. The current BDs are quite solid, there's a ton of grain still in there. But done right, this can look as if it was released yesterday so to speak. A fresh transfer PLEASE.

They're very DNR'ed, especially the sequels. Whatever grain that's actually still there is a soupy, over-processed mess.

Oh gawd, the BTTF films were what taught me what DNR and EE were in the first place. Those were some of the very first blu-rays I ever purchased and while watching them I noticed how everything had a weird, unnatural sharpness to it which led to me looking up what the problem was and learning about all that stuff.

The DCP copy of the first film, from before the Blu-ray work was done, it definitely my favorite way to watch the movie.

I'm stoked for these 4Ks...

Back to the Future should be taught in film school how to make exposition fun. The movie grinds to a halt and the Doc gives a massive data dump where he explains the rules. Normally this would be a massive no-no but the exposition is given in such an engaging and compelling way you don't care.

Back to the Future can also be taught in film school about economical storytelling and setting things up to pay them off later. BttF is a Masterpiece.

I can't seem to find the bit that says whether this is coming out on disc or just 4k cinema release?

Oh god no! That's only scratching the surface, We've still got to get the remaining Superman movies, Gone With the Wind, The Lethal Weapon series, The X-Files, Fantasia, Snow White, Fantasia 2000, Home Alone, Star Trek, Speed 2, The Black Cauldron, and so many more.

If and when Universal re-releases this to movie theaters again, i will be there as well! Had a great time with the other people who came to watch it last time in the theater, it was just a pure delight.
That's a nice sentiment to tell the studios. I'm not buying your 4Ks that you spent time and money on unless it dirt cheap. I'm sure they'll want to continue doing more 4K releases with attitudes like that.

I get what you're saying, but that is the nature of this beast. Going as far back as the VHS days. Even when you do get it a cheaper price inevitably it will go on sale for an even lower price than what you paid for it. And who knows what will happen tomorrow. You may wait on a movie you really do love for it to go sale to buy and end up dead before you had that chance. Now, I'm not saying one should rush out and buy everything because of that. No.

I'm just saying that if you are online or in a store and you see this movie you want, but it's not quite cheap enough for you yet don't hesitate. You never know how long you have to enjoy it. I've taken for granted that I have all the time in the world to do the things I want and be with the people I want. I was wrong and I learned that lesson the hard way.

Film professors are too busy screening Citizen Kane to pay any attention to this masterpiece.

From the link in the OP:

Be on the lookout for theatrical events and the debut of the "Back to the Future" trilogy in 4K from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, as well as a celebration from Turner Classic Movies (TCM) later in 2020.
Specifically the bolded part.

Couldn't they just mean a digital release?

Other tweets have since suggested it's getting a release on disc, though.

For another film not named Back to the Future, perhaps.

The outrage from customers getting a digital only release for one of the most beloved film trilogies of all-time is not something Universal would want to deal with.

Back to the Future has one of my favorite moments of cinema. It's when Biff is going to force himself on Lorraine and tells George to back away. Really dark for a summer blockbuster. And when George punches Biff that is a genuine stand up and cheer moment.
A 10/10 movie.

I was so mad when I was watching Avengers: Endgame and they made fun of BttF...

Back to the Future Trilogy will always be one of my all time favourite movies ever made.
