Yeah, it's pretty much just bad. I suppose it might help if you're really drunk or stoned.

Pretty sure the same can be said for the movie in your avatar.

That honor would definitely go to Howling 6.

No way. Blood Rage is genuinely and intentionally funny, and has some awesome slashin', to boot. Howling II is just wretched.

I myself have never watched the latter while stoned...maybe it helps.

Everything post-Howling II (II is bad but has a certain charm that the others lack) is awful but New Moon Rising is the absolute worst. I wanted to rip out my eyeballs watching that.

I saw New Moon Rising a long time ago on video, it took a week to get the foul stench out of my VCR after watching.
Hands down the worst of The Howling movies.

I watched my Scream Factory Blu-ray of Howling II this evening.

Maybe it's because my taste in cinema is taking a nosedive in my middle age, but I think that this movie is pretty decent. It pales in comparison to The Howling, of course, the makeup effects are nowhere near as good as in that first movie, and there's a prominent element of sleaze, but I was never bored, I never looked at my watch, and I was engaged the entire time.

I had a feeling that the 1980s vibe would appeal to me, and my instincts were correct. I loved the Steve Parsons soundtrack, I loved the atmospheric Transylvania footage during the film's final half, I loved Christopher Lee's endearingly somber work even in this lesser film of his, and, like most other fans, I would take 1980s-era Sybil Danning down like a Christmas tree on New Year's Day. The lead actors, Reb Brown and the beautiful Annie McEnroe, were both good for their roles as well.

Howling II comes across sort of like a combination between 1980s horror comedy and softcore Euro-sleaze, and viewers who know what to expect will get what they're looking for. It's all laughably ridiculous, but it never drags.

I'm enjoying going through the extras right now.

Looking forward to this release

Their slipcover for this should be lenticular, with Sybil Danning ripping her top off just like the end credits!
Yeah, this movie is awesome! This is the same director as the unique, oddball classic The Beast Within. This movie outdoes it. Great visuals throughout, too. 10 years ago I thought The Beast Within was merely interesting, and now love it. People need to give Howling 2 another chance, or they are just too dry. Phillipe Mora looks to be a real auteur from these 2 films. Great commentaries from director & composer, though the editor is much more of a square.
Also, it's no insult to say alcohol might enhance enjoyment. This is a party movie.
I love a lot of "so bad it's good" movies, but for some films the label's a little unfair. This movie is intentionally cheesy & absurd. But whether it's "so bad..." or just plain good doesn't matter. Someone said about music,"If it sounds good it is good."

Exactly. New Moon Rising is abysmal. Howling II looks like Gone With The Wind compared to that sh!t.

Once again the Arrow has much better compression and grain, though it's also much brighter for whatever reason.

If you want the Blu-ray you better act now, it’s going out of print.

It almost seems like the same transfer, between the Arrow and Scream Factory. I actually prefer the SF for the darker picture, but both seem identical.

I can't decide on getting this or not. I love the first Howling but with this being considered such an awful movie generally speaking and with how bad the later sequels are I just don't know if I'll like it.

I actually like it more than Howling I and loads more than III (thats as far as I've gotten).
Its campy, and weird and over the top, but its a great party WTF movie, unlike the others imo

Almost everything I've seen about it screams (or howls I should say ) I will love it. 1985 was a great year for horror too. F**k it! Just placed an order.

FWIW, Amazon says it'll be back in stock on October 29 and is readily available on Shout's site. Are you guys sure it's going OOP? Or is this simply based on other titles from the same deal that are already OOP?

Interesting. I would think it would say OOP on Shout's site if it was OOP like the other OOP titles.
