There is no pressure either way. You could just buy VS titles in 4K but keep on buying Blu-Ray for other stuff. Or just buy blockbusters in 4K.

Personally, I’m just buying new stuff in 4K, I won’t be replacing all my beloved Blu-rays. It would just be too expensive. If a new film isn’t available in 4K, we have the hardship of a Blu-Ray instead!

As for VS, I’m hoping for some 4K adult titles.

I'm doing (mostly) the opposite - mainly buying the UHD editions of back catalog content that has been shot on film. Movies like The Shining, Blade Runner and Close Encounters of the Third Kind look fantastic on the format, while newer films like Daybreakers, much of which was shot in front of greenscreens, looks like crap. The fakeness of the digital environments comes through way more pronounced and takes me out of the film. If VS wants to dip their toes in 4K waters I'll support them but, like I said in an earlier post, I'll have to be selective because I don't believe everything needs to look like a Pixar production.

The problem with that (from my viewpoint) is that once I start doing that with a handful of films, I won’t be able to stop. I have close to 950 discs now and around 300 are back catalogue.

However, maybe you agree with me when I say it’s a very nice problem to have.

I don't think VS raising their prices to 35 per disc for uhd/BD will help their sales, 25 is about max for me for the kinds of films they release.

As long as they keep the two tier releases (Blu-ray/DVD combo and 4K/Blu-ray combos) everything should be fine. I don't foresee them jumping straight into UHD without options. Actually, no one has done that, not even the majors so we're good

I mostly collect B movies and other trash so I have limits to how crisp I want to view stuff like that. I just think some of the magic gets lost when It's cleaned up to a pristine version. Most likely just stick with blu ray. (Although I said this about DVD too so we'll see).

My Amityville set was scheduled to arrive today, however, it showed up Saturday while I was away. Didn't get home til late last night and there was torrential downpours Saturday and Sunday so I was having a mini panic attack thinking the set was ruined. The box basically melted in my hands. The advertisements/sticker/invoice were soaked beyond believe. The paper around the set was soaked...I was so worried...the bubble wrap around the set had moisture on it...oh no...then I carefully removed it...held my breath...and then...the set was dry! Phew. I was also able to dry out the Tammy and the T-Rex card/ad that came with it too.

Since I'm seeing Jenny Lewis live tonight, I hope to be able to dig into this set tomorrow.

This is kind of where I'm at with things as well. 95% of what I buy from VS are blind buys and so that magical sub $20 price point is where I spend most of my time looking. On occasion films that get such a significant buzz going on these boards will prove enough for me to pay full price (Mausoleum last year) but in general while dropping $17.99 - $25 is something I can pretty easily justify without the worry of much buyers remorse, raising that threshold to $35 suddenly makes the risk of disappointment that much greater.

Thankfully for me, Tammy and The T-Rex wasn't something I had ever really planned on picking up anytime soon and so the decision to buy a standard set or UHD set is more or less not an issue for me. I'm definitely interested in seeing what else may come down the 4k pipeline in the future, but for now I'm definitely a fence sitter in regards to how I feel about buying these films on UHD.

Doesn't really fit any of the clues. Deadline is the best guess so far, considering it fits every clue.

That's kinda what I'm doing but I'm mostly judging it based how improved the new transfer is. In the case of BLADE RUNNER, PREDATOR and GROUNDHOG DAY the PQ is so improved that paying for the upgrade is a no brainer. I'm not feeling much pressure to upgrade blu-rays that already look really good.

I just watched "Secta Siniestra" last night and it was loads of fun. The Description mentions similarities to the exorcist and rosemary's baby which I'd agree with but this morning when I was describing it to my partner she immediately said it sounded like the opening was very reminiscent of Jane Eyre as well.

After much internal consideration, we're trying to decide when to release ZOMBIE ISLAND MASSACRE. What do you all think?

How about yesterday?

Should we expect a Blood Hook-like extended cut?
