Will Target be selling the 4K? There is one about 1 mile from my house. I can stop by on my way to work and find out.

It's in the weekly ad so they should have it in store.

Arrived early this morning and had a watch. I keep seeing new things and little nuances in this movie as I get older. It's a truly timeless film.

Picture quality looked absolutely excellent for an 80 year old film. I wouldn't go out and call it an "absolute revelation" but it's the best I've ever seen it look. Technicolor (and flames) were especially awesome to see in Dolby Vision on the LG 55" B8.

It's really awesome how, 80 years later, the makeup on Bolger/Lahr/Haley not only holds up, but looks believable on closeups. 4K really brings home (no pun intended) just how advanced the makeup was, even if some of its flaws are extremely noticeable on background characters (the Munchkins, in particular).

The matte paintings and painted backgrounds are a lot more noticeable on the newer home formats and 4K is no exception. It affects the suspension of disbelief you had watching the film as a kid, but it still gives the film an unrivaled dreamlike quality and an appreciation for how much the crew was able to do on their interior sets.

This is one of the main reasons why 4K UHD's the best format to watch classic films. Studios are doing a great job on most restorations. I'd love to see more 8K scans.

(Interestingly enough, my copy ended with an Indian Board of Film Censors title card, dated 1990. It looked like a literal sheet of paper up on the screen. I guess it must be an easy way to "internationalize" the release, hence all the multilingual warning screens before the main menu. Don't know if this was on the 75th Anniversary release, though).

Does the steelbook even have the 4K branding on it? The cover art we have here doesn't show it. I do see it on Best Buy's page, but she's too close to the branding/border there. It doesn't look as nice.

I wasn't gonna buy the steelbook anyway, because it's too pricey for my liking. Just wondering.

It's a J-Card. It only covers the back and the top of the front but you can remove it if you want.

Does anybody else get the suspicion that he's just going to run out tomorrow morning and buy one off the shelf and then post a quick review?
Does anybody believe that he's had a copy of this very anticipated 4K release for a week and couldn't find the time to watch 101 minute movie and post a review?
I guess the real question is does he believe anybody believes that.
Well, as a former reviewer myself, I do believe he got a copy...Warners is VERY good about sending out screeners and sending them out in advance of release. In fact, they and Shout! Factory are the only two - in my opinion - that can be counted on these days.

I've noticed that on several Warners UHDs that I let run to the end, Shining had one as well.

amazon is so ridiculous I pre-ordered this weeks ago with my amazon prime and it says it will be here Thursday the 31st which I was ok with but today I click on the product page and it says if I order in the next 3 hours I can get it by tomorrow the 30th. now how does that make sense? it seems they are shipping it out to people who order today faster than the people who ordered this weeks ago.

Happens to me all the time. I just go on chat and b*tch them out about how I’m a prime member and I should be able to get stuff guaranteed for release day delivery when I pay for my membership. I then usually get the package that day.
