Does anyone know if Arrow's Heathers will work with any trick (specifically on a Samsung player or PS3/PS4)?

PS3/4 can’t do the top menu trick due to their structure. I don’t know about Samsung players as the only Samsung I own is a region free one. Arrows work perfectly with Panasonics.

Oh okay. I wouldn't go out and buy a whole new player for that (I would may as well get a region free player), but it would be nice to finally own one of my all-time favorite movies on Blu-ray. I refuse to get the expensive OOP disc from Anchor Bay with an ancient transfer, or the barebones disc from Image with the same ancient transfer.

I went region-free for one title initially (Strange Days) and then found all sorts of Region B titles worth buying. Some are cheaper because the Region A release is OOP (Phantasm boxset, Take Shelter), some have more extra features (Triangle, Tenebrae), and there are others never released in Region A (The Crying Game). Check eBay for region-free players (I recommend 220 Electronics as a seller); they start at $99 with no taxes or shipping.

I love Heathers, and upgrading my Anchor Bay disc sounds like a great idea!

Works:
[Show spoiler]
Notes:
All extras should play fine unless specifically noted.
Cross of Iron: Menu will default to German. Extras will not work due to PAL SD.
The Deer Hunter: Bonus disc boots as well.
Ice Cold in Alex: Sylvia Sims interview and John Mills home footage won't play due to PAL SD. Trailer and gallery play fine.
My Darling Clementine: Second disc works as well.
Outlaw Star: All four discs work.
Pickup on South Street: Disc will “Stop” but press “Play”, “Stop”, and then “Top Menu”
Ran: Bonus disc will not load…menu might be locked at PAL.
They Live: Bonus disc boots as well.

Won't work:
[Show spoiler]
Notes:
The Dam Busters: Menu will play on an endless loop with no options selectable.
The Driver: Disc will not "read".
Dunkirk (Vintage Classics): Menu will play on an endless loop with no options selectable.
The Man in the White Suit: Will be stuck on “Stop”, no region lock warning.
The Titfield Thunderbolt: Menu locked in PAL SD
Wonder if this will work on my Oppo UDP 205.

More than likely. All of my region locked Arrow releases have worked on my Region A Panasonic player.

I’m aware some US titles are region free, and that some region B titles from Arrow can be played through in US players through the top menu trick. But can any of the region A releases be played on UK players through the top menu trick? Thanks!

Got the Top Menu trick to work on my Philips 4K player.

The UK region B blus of The Ring '98, the original Oldboy, Big Trouble in Little China and The Dark Half all worked like a charm.

It’s been confirmed that Cure is unlockable in PS4s. Maybe the menu trick works for other blus?

This is exactly the type of solution that I was hoping for but could not find. I've got to try this tonight on my 10 year old (I think) Sony.

I've got 2 movies that I cannot watch at the moment: Memories of Murder DVD & Control BD.

Update: I have Sony BDP-S3200 (Region 1). Stop + Top Menu thing did not work for me with Control BD (UK, Region 2). Pressing STOP kicks me out to the base player menu so pressing TOP MENU or any other disc function doesn't do anything. Also tried playing it in PS4 and it recognized the movie as "Control" but it would not play.

So I tested some of my Region B locked discs. The bad news, I tested some of my Arrow and Eureka discs and most flat-out refused to work (I tried "Heathers" and I didn't even get a region lock screen; it kept kicking me out).

I had tested the following and none worked:
[Show spoiler]Arrow:
Heathers
Sweet Smell of Success
Eureka:
Coming Home
Fixed Bayonets!
Marty
Medium Cool
Onibaba
Paper Moon
Seconds

The good news, however is that, some Eureka discs, did in fact, work:
High Noon
Irma la Douce
Journey to the Center of the Earth
The Last Waltz
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn

All of these discs were encoded by the same individual, Luke Louca. I can safely assume that any Luke Locua encoded disc (which "Cure" is very likely to be) will be "top menu" friendly on PS4s (I haven't tried on PS3 yet).

I’ve decided to compile a list of Eureka titles that were also encoded by Luke Louca. These discs should work in any non-Panasonic Blu Ray/UHD player by simply pressing “top menu”/“disc menu” at the region lock screen.

Special thanks for Patient-X for confirming certain releases.

Note: There might be more in the “Classics” and/or MoC line but I need people with discs (mostly late 2016 release-"High Noon") to confirm. Any release post-"High Noon" will not work. The LE releases of "High Noon" and "The Last Waltz" will also work.

Non-Eureka discs:

Note: Tested using the Steelbook release; presumably the CE disc will work as well. The extras disc will not load. Unknown if the standard 4K reissue was quietly fixed or if this release has the same disc as the CE/Steel.

How common is it for Kino Lorber or Shout/Scream titles to be unlockable? Or Scorpion titles like The Monster Club?

This is region A as well, and if played as region A you get the uncut version of the movie

The Region B Second Sight blu-ray of Upgrade is confirmed unlockable via the "stop disc, then press top menu" trick on my Philips 4K UHD player.
