I didn't make anything up. They said on that interview documented on that infamous Twitter thread.

I don't think D&D get enough credit for the first 4 seasons. Yes, Martin wrote the books but taking a complex storyline and breaking it down for cinema or TV, writing new dialog, exorcising superfluous characters, and the main characters their own unique voice isn't easy. I'd trust D&D to adapt an existing storyline but probably not to come up with their own storyline. The first 4 seasons of Game of Thrones is some of the best TV and D&D deserves some of the credit.

The talent to turn those books into goat tier tv is to be admired and commended. Nothing wrong with needing a road map unless its GM sketching it for you as he isn't finishing that shit.

Season 1 was great because it was based on George's book and even this season had D&D's scenes in it like "making the 8" or Littlefinger's sexposition. Seasons 2-8 are trash with the exception of "Blackwater".

hahahahaha what an idiotic take. The production values and music ALONE make any episode far from "trash".

That seems harsh on those superfluous characters to label them all troublesome, menacing or oppressive, they have feelings too.

Troublesome to the flow of the script.

Oh please. None of these matters when the writing is shit. There are dozens shows from 70's - 90's that have low production values and were phenomenal just because of brilliant writing.

You don't know enough about storytelling to be getting on up on your soap box.

Had any given season suffered to the degree that only the visuals saved it, then all of us would have become bored.

While I certainly wouldn't put GoT in the same league as, say, Breaking Bad, it was a great series. If you want writing at a higher level, then there's plenty of series (such as Bojack Horseman).

Agreed.

I can't talk about Breaking Bad as I've never seen it, but my favorite TV show of all time is The Wire and (for me) seasons 1-4 of GoT is right up there with it in terms of quality.

Spectacles over substance. Good luck with that. I'm done.

I think the point is you're saying seasons 2-8 'only' had spectacle and that patently isn't true.

Like if you want to knock some of the writing in seasons 5-8 then im right there with you..but seasons 1-4 were consistently home runs for me. And I dare say..most people.
