The film has its moments. I really enjoy some of its segments. Some parts appear to be inspired by Licence to Kill: Sanchez escape is similar to Lane's capture underwater and the truck chase is replaced with the helicopter one

Waiting for the next installment!

I thought the movie was good, but the video was way too grainy in most scenes and how these reviewers can give the video 4.5 stars out of 5 is a joke. Whatever they are on they need to get off it. The audio could of been better considering the amount of action in the film. Atmos was just ok and nothing to brag about. Also there is nothing worse than changing aspect ratio DURING A MOVIE. Should be either one or the other.I give it a 5 /10. These things totally distracted my viewing and i think i am being generous.Tom Cruise was good and so was the rest of the cast i thought. There was no corny stupid love spats which was a blessing.

The film portions were shot on 35m, so it's going to be very grainy and it looked exactly that way when I saw it in Dolby Cinema. The disc did a magnificent job of reproducing the source material. The high marks for video in the review make perfect sense. This movie was never designed to look smooth and shiny.

Yep, unfortunately it does not change my view of what it looked like. I thought for a movie of 2018 we would be moving forward in quality. 35m or whatever does not really matter to me as the video was shockingly bad for this day and age.How a reviewer can give it a 4.5 rating on the video quality side of things is a complete joke. The video portion of the movie reminds me of the very first Die Hard movie that was released on 4k, full of grain. In fact if it was designed to look like that then i cant understand what they were thinking in conjunction with today's technology. It would of been better viewed on an ipad. If its made with full of grain then why release it on 4k?.Whats the point. The latest wizard of Oz 4k release shows Fallout the back door and it was made in 1940.If its a duck and it quacks then its a duck.

It's not as cut and dry as you may think when it comes to grainy film images. There are several different film stocks out there with many different levels of grain depending on which ones are used along with other factors such as lighting levels and techniques. This is why Fallout doesn't look like Oz which doesn't look like The Shining etc., etc....

Cruise has stated on bonus material for Fallout that the grainy 35mm look it has was exactly the way he wanted it to look. You may not like it, but it was how Cruise the producer wanted his film to look and the transfer handles it masterfully. It is an extraordinarily faithful recreation of the theatrical experience, which after all, is what UHD was designed to do.

Video quality reviews should weigh heavily on how faithful is the presentation to what the source material looked like and intented to look like.

This is why Charlie Chaplin's "The Kid" got an 4.8 for a film made in the 1920s.

The review for Fallout also clearly states the VIDEO itself does not have a wow factor and therefore the context of the rating is against the source and intended look, not the reference of what a digital picture is capable of looking like.

I'm personally surprised they didn't go for the modernistic clean with no noise look on this action releae, but it does seem the 4K presentation looks basically like the actual film master as far as we can reasonably expect.

I had a different experience with the Atmos mix on this one as I thought it had a perfect balance between ear and height levels, along with great pans and localization. The helicopter chase at the end was a jaw dropping scene to watch and listen to as it a go to demo for me. It is the only scene I know of where they pan the sound of the main rotor between the 4 Atmos speakers in the top layer to match exactly where it is with the different camera angles. They could have been lazy with it and kept it in all 4, but they didn’t.

Nonsense, how 4k works has nothing to do with my eyes and how i see things. Like i said "If it's a duck and it quacks, then it's a duck." You don't understand my post! The movie is Grainy as anything, this has been stated by many people. What is it about my post that you don't understand?I am telling you how i see it. That's how i see it. I understand what grain is, so that's all i need to know. Its a no brainer.

Yea but weather they are using 35mm film or what not, does not matter to me one bit or what anyone says about WHY they did what they did and how the movie ended up the way it did is not in my best interest. I have no control over what they do. If that's the way they want it to look then fine and if that is your thing then fine but as far as i am concerned parts of the movie looked like crap.Tom cruise can say what he likes, he's getting paid. How many film stocks out there has NOTHING, NOTHING to do with what i am seeing at all and my view of the finished product.I don't know how to make a movie and i don't care about making one and i certainly don't need a lecture on source material and what they themselves think of it or how any of it works. I simply buy the movie and view it on the best equipment that i can afford and if i don't like the movie then i say so.
