Having seen both cuts, I believe there is a huge problem with the film tempo.

You go in having seen the (badly done) trailers, so you expect the action to be on par with Rambo 2008. But this drags on and on, and the moment where you expect Rambo to go full blast, when he is surrounded by dozens of guys, as seen in the trailers, he stupidly let them have the edge.

The great idea is the tunnels as metaphor for his craziness. And him clearing them up, becoming the killing machine again.

But unlike 2008 Theatrical Cut, where in the middle, he realise killing is in his blood and he is a savage who relish it, here it looks as if he is a victim of the violence, perpetually catching up on him.

There is only one great scene and that is the climax. 2008 had tons of them, one great amazing scene after the other.

I still like it, but this feels like half a film. The climax would have worked as a middle of the film scene, and then Rambo would go in Mexico and kill em' all, resolving on his own the drug cartel problem. Perhaps Stallone decided to keep this half of the script for Rambo Last Blood Part II.

Also the villains were bad, but bland. The pedophile bad guy general in Rambo 2008 was fantastic. You knew he was going to get it.
Well, this certainly has tempered my enthusiasm. So in other words, those who are expecting Rambo 2008 are going to be disappointed?

Yes, in a comparison with that film. Hell, arguably in comparison with them all. But it's still Rambo and there's still plenty to enjoy.

It's a Lionsgate disc so it'll be in the bargain bin long before then.

I’ll pay whatever it takes to get the international cut in UHD.

Still no confirmation on which (if any) territories have that, right?

Germany and France.

Australia has the international cut on BD, US cut on UHD.

???

Changing the shutter isn't done for "more light," that's ISO and f-stop. Ay shutter speed changes are intentional for the look they want, but it's not for "capturing more light."

This drone shot looks absolutely terrible. Poor resolution, jaggies aliasing all over the place. The BD looks the same.

I spotted more jaggie moments around buildings/objects. The movie not only sucks it's also poorly shot.

Was able to watch it at a friend's house and I absolutely loved it! It's kind of like Rambo and Taken rolled into one movie along with plenty of hardhitting bloodshed. Definitely will get this myself after I have made up my mind on which version to get.

I'm down for another Rambo movie!

Not sure how "48fps" relates to f-stop though. If you shoot anything at 48fps and the rest at 24fps then the motion of the 48 will look slower.

It's Sir.

But, be aware, there are no English subtitles listed on the publisher's website. So, I'm not sure if the Spanish dialogues will be subbed in English. Even though I'm German that's the reason why I'm waiting for confirmation and stick to the US until then. Want to have both cuts anyway.

Dammit.

EDIT: I do currently own four BDs from Koch and they all feature English subtitles, so that keeps me optimistic...

It absolutely blows. I'm a fan of all the prior movies -- this isn't like any of them. It's more like a cheap Lionsgate TAKEN ripoff you'd expect to see direct-to-video with Nic Cage or Bruce Willis.

Surprised there's as much "love" as there is here for it. My friend and I walked away embarrassed we paid for a ticket back in September. Even David Morrell, who wrote the original First Blood novel, said he was embarrassed that his name was on it.

It's the fifth movie in the series, which has never been the most intellectually riveting of such, and Stallone is 147 years old, so it's all about setting realistic expectations.

I’m not sure why anyone would be surprised or upset by low-quality aerial shots - dodgy, lo-fi drone footage is commonplace these days.

So on a shoot, you should forbid the DoP to put the shutter speed at anything else other than 1/48 if you shoot digital.

This was done on Rambo Last Blood (raising the shutter too high), on the opening scene, and I noticed there are shots in the tunnel during the climax, that also look like video. Also the opening scene of Logan, which I didn't buy on Blu-ray because I can't stand beginning to watch the film, and watching a great scene ruined and looking like I'm watching in fast forward from the get go.

I noticed the jaggies too, I think this film will look poor on any format.
Never said you were wrong about a different shutter speed, just that it wasn’t don’t to “let in more light.” But no reason they might’ve done it on the opening and nowhere else in the film.

I initially thought I wouldn’t be bothered by a lack of English subtitles on the German 4K of the extended cut... but then again, one of the added scenes is entirely in a different language.

So yeah, I’m gonna have to hold my horses until someone has the disc in hand.
