Default About Blu-ray sets that have double-stacked discs in them.

You know how sometimes, you'll buy a Blu-ray set (or even a 4K set) and sometimes they'll have two discs stacked on top of each other on one side?

I know the preferable thing for many of us would be to separate them and put one of them in another case.

However, if I were to not do that and just leave them stacked on top of each other in the case, would that damage the disc on top over time?

It should be ok since BD's have a hard coating to protect the data layer. In the case of a 2-disc stack you could consider placing them back to back so neither data side is brushing against another disc.

How about 4K discs?

There've been instances when stacked discs are stuck together because the coating wasn't dry yet.

No. The discs don't move on their own and they shouldn't be stored in a horizontal manner. Meaning, so long as you aren't constantly moving the discs around then they won't ever really touch. Stacked cases may not be preferred but they don't pose any more significant of a factor to the long term health of your disc than ordering online and receiving a floater does. You're more likely to encounter disc rot or your player dying rather than damage from discs sharing a hub.

You guys must be lucky because I have way too many discs scratched because of stacking right out of the package, new, and on release date.

Are they scratched or defective? I got to admit, I don't care if a disc is scratched as long as it plays. I have plenty of perfect looking discs that are defective.

If you have ever tried to intentionally scratch a disc it becomes fairly obvious that the stacking probably didn't do the damage. I've seen this too but assume it was in the plant or packaging process.

As someone else posted, the 3 discs I've ever had playback issues with out over over 2000, were all flawless.

I've never had a problem with them either. I can appreciate that some people don't like them, but they have never bothered me. I buy my blank DVD-R's stacked in 100 disc containers and they are never scratched.

Can someone please provide me with a link to these kind of "2 disc stack" BD cases? Sony uses Eco-Lite Vortex "2 disc stack" BD cases for their Spider-Man: "Home" 3-disc sets, and Paramount uses Eco-Lite Vortex "2 disc stack" BD cases for their Star Trek: Picard Season 2 and Season 3 BD sets.

I've had pretty bad experiences with stacked disk. The Boys Season 1 & 2 was my worst.Every copy had scenes freezing and pixelating. After the third copy I gave up and kept it because the two spots on the just one disk were in the end credits and a recap scene. I figured that would be the best I could get. I also The other copies had these issues on more then one disks and more episodes.

I also have hand damage and find it very hard to get the disks out of stacked cases that put several disks on one hub.

I've actually consider not getting a release if I see stacked disks reported on the forums

I always avoid stacked discs where I can, when it’s unavoidable I always replace the case with a proper non-eco case with the appropriate number spots available. In the case of steelbooks, there is an easy fix to this as well. It involves a new razor blade, gorilla glue, and a plastic paint scraper. Stay far away from stacked discs and digipacks that have sleeves that dust can collect in happy collecting all.

Well, I'm going to drop looking for "stacked disc cases". I'm going to look for good quality 4 or 5 disc BD cases with the "hinge" designs inside the cases.

All sets of The Blacklist have stacked disks and I’ve never had a problem with playing them. Not a single scratched disk. But then there’s problems now with The Boys stacked disks. I dunno maybe quality control just sucks these days.
